In some countries it is the custom to never accept the given price for an item but to bargain or haggle to get the price down. It is not done that much in Canada or the USA, but is still done, a - would you bargain in your own country for the things you want? b- when travelling do you bargain in other countries for the things you want?

Absolutley I do this. I go to flea markets and yard sales a lot, and rarely do I pay the first asked for price. Of course at times the asked for price is so low that I don't haggle. On the other hand some items start out so high priced that I know it won't come down far enough for me. So the answer is yes to both questions. I would bargain.

Actually, I just heard a little "blurb" this morning on the radio about haggling for a better price because the economy is so bad right now. Just to make the sale, some places in America are willing to sell at the lower price. I have haggled at garage sales and flea markets, don't think it's the custom though, just looking for the best price.

Hi in where I live people do that especially when you are not in shops or places whose prices are fixed. I am not good at bargaining or haggling I don't like it but sometimes if I felt that the vendor or the shop is robbing me off I do it. So to answer your question: a- Do I bargain or haggle here? Rarely or when I have to. b- Do I do that outside my country ? Rarely or when I have to. Nice topic, thank u ...

I have actually heard of this before where people go around and haggle and it actually adds up to save people alot of money in the long run! I am actually guilty of this myself....before when I was at certain places and they told me the price and I didn't like it I would haggle the price down to a price that I really did like and if you think about it it will really save you alot of money...who doesn't like that? As far as haggling in other countries....I would defiently do that because then again you might get better prices and more for your money!
