Since my last topic about knowing about hard drives. Well any type of mass storage device, hard drive, CD, DVD, pen drive, compact flash, sd mmc memory card and such - What do you do or how do you react when your files become missing, corrupted or lost? How do you react when you accidentally deleted your important files, documents you created for your exam, homework, or family pictures, mp3s and such. You would go crazy wouldn't you? I know I would. How would you react after all the work that you do on your computer - your system crashes, no longer booting into Windows, then have to have your system formatted and Microsoft Windows installed back on - knowing that your files will be lost. What a bummer isn't it? Well that's why they have what is called Data Recovery.
There are several different programs that can recover all your files from your mass storage devices like the ones I have mentioned above. I have done data recovery for a while now - 6 years to be exact. I have recovered files the possible way which was time consuming. Even recovered files after the hard drive or other device has been formatted. One of the popular programs is Stompsoft Recover Lost Data, then there is the most popular recommend program called Recover My Files and then BadCopy Pro - these three programs I use more and have been more effective in data recovery. Recovering data full is not easy, because sometimes files that have been delete or been formatted I'd say 75% of the time your files will recover full - 25% of the time it won't.
Data Recovery repairs are very expensive - The average can be done $1,500 to $3,000 from IT Techs. This is due to the time to recover data even from dead hard drives. The time that it takes depending on how much capacity a storage device has. But there are those that pay up because they do care about their files - Either way it is later backed up and put on other devices to give back to them.
I do my own business in Data Recovery, but I do not over charge like some others - too expensive to tell you the truth. My prices are much better and clients I have don't complain about the cost either. When I recover data - I also offer free gifts - like say I charge per GB to them - $100 per GB for IDE or SATA HDD - they get a free DVD/CD Case and a bundle of CD/DVD discs. Also whatever I have backed up for them I do not charge them the backups - only for the labor I recover DATA from. This is why business like this gives a good rep and more customers because for one when there is business - you got to have offers to give out FREE - if not business won't be any good.

I back up all my important files onto a 250GB external drive, then have a back-up lower spec PC that I can use if my main one is out of use (has copies of the vital software such as Office, Outlook and Dreamweaver)
I backup the data I regularly use on a 1GB pen drive (spreadsheets etc..)
I have a spare 300GB internal drive and would like it to 'mirror' my main hard-drive - do you know what software (preferable cheap/free...) I could use (O/S is XP pro)?

Nice to hear about your job as someone who deals in data recovery..
Sure, data recovery ain't cheap, but I think it ultimately depends on whether the loss data is worth that amount...
If say, the lost data is your holiday photos or worst, wedding photos or your school projects which have to be submitted next week, won't it be a small price to pay?

You are very good at what you do. This type of information is very rare in the Philippines. I know the technology for some who knew this would be too advance. Honestly if you had business like this here I would not doubt you would grow successfully and earn much doing that here because for one there are many businesses here in Manila that uses computers on a daily basis - Imagine how many computers in an office and then their computer crashes? Data Recovery would be a wonderful thing and advantage. Keep up the good work darkangel and hope to see you grow in your potentials.
