This game is part of the Orange Box collection from Steam and was released together with Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and other Steam games (a total of 5 games in that set!) Though Half-Life 2 is always good and the story is always engaging, Portal was the game that really caught my fancy.
You wake up in a science research facility. You are the test subject and have been provided with a gun that can create 'portals'. The first few rooms you are shown teach you how to use the gun and to think of the endless ways you can use it. Later levels do not give you any instructions on how to get through them but you will need the practice for later.
As an incentive, you have been promised a party and a cake.
This game also has a great ending song, but I won't post it here unless I know someone else has finished the game.
For more info on the game and also for a great introduction, check out this site: http://orange.half-life2.com/portal.html. Be sure to check out the trailer.

The cake is a lie! lol i loved that companion cube and hated when i had to put it in the incinerator. oh there is also something of interest here. did you know that before portal was even released there was a flash version of the game online. it was made in simple 2-d graphics but contained most of the same features including gravity and the cube. the only thing was that at the end (lvl. 40) instead of fighting glados. you had to run through a one room situation and collect a cake slice to win.
