yes of course.. a teacher can be a good friend to his/her student, and vice versa.. this is helpful to create trust to both parties.. mentors ar not only mer teachers, they can also be your friends.. and students could also be considered as your friends too..

That could be a very sticky situation. I work in a school as a secretary and run across many, many students. I am a people person and do become close with the students but as long as you know not to cross the line you should be fine.

Yes I'm a college professor and in my 4 years of teaching almost all my fast student now working in other country alway email me because of our friendship. You have to treat you student like your younger brother or Sister so that you will know their problem. You know WHY? because some time student have a personal problem, that's why their grade will be affected.

I see don't see any harm for teachers to have a good realtionship with their students provided they know their limitation and boundaries. As for me, I am very close with my students, both males and females but I know where I stand. I don't take advantage of them. We see movies in group, we go for outing together and many more. Whereas for the students, if they like you they will like your subject too.

Yes of course you can but there should be a limitation. You should inform your students that in classroom discussion you are a teacher then they are your students but right after the class they all your friends. Im college instructor for almost 2 years and before i was HS teacher and nothings wrong with that if your students send messages your inbox or text/call. Infact i received messages daily from my former students especially who are working abroad. Let me share with this to you that one of my students who are now in U.S promise me to send her one week pay check if i'm getting married and the rest are willing to volunter for my wed like, make-up artist, gown designing, catering, flower arranging, sing my favorite song while walking on the aile. See...How lovely it is...and i cant wait for my BIG day.. Just be good to your students and they will be good as you are.

I think it is possible. Especially it is easier for young teachers and their students become friends. As the generation gap is smaller. They have something in common.

It is better to wait to be friends until after the student has passed all of your classes and/or graduated, depending on what grade level you teach. Certainly it is fine to be friends with a former student. I always had an online forum for students to ask questions of me and of each other, and they were most welcome to e-mail me for help with their studies, but I would never give out my personal phone number to current students. You need to keep a professional distance.

Well its not ethical to be friends with a student while you are teaching them. You can make biased opinions about the person's grade. They may also be favoured over other students. It also depends what kind of teacher you are. I think a high school teacher being friends with his/her students is inappropriate for the age difference alone.

I think there's nothing bad in making friends with students...I believe it's one way for them to feel comfortable in your class...I personally like teachers who make the students feel comfortable...It eases the tension we have to bear when you are around...And friendly teachers can motivate the students to study more...God bless! :)

Absolutely! However, you do need to set boundaries. I'm very wary of giving out my cell phone number to students and when I give them my email, I always make sure to give them an account that I don't use that often. Once I see that a friendship is developing rather than students wanting to be in contact with me for free English practice, then I go ahead and give them more contact information. This limits the amount of eslspam I get. One of my students has become like an older brother to me since he helped me get to the hospital and translated an eye exam for me.
