His Blood Glucose Is Going Down - YAY

It seems after one weeks medication, drastic diet change and cinnamon tablets (thanks to a mylottian named "wrongway"), my husbands blood glucose has come right down to 94 mg/dl. The normal range is between 70-100. His aim is to keep it under 100 says his doctor who told us yesterday at his second checkup. He has also lost 3 pounds and seems to be feeling a lot better healthwise. His doctor prescribed another medication for his cholesterol and we have his first Diabetes Education (including seeing a dietician) on Monday - his first one out of four sessions. Wish us luck!

that is a good result. But i can say that 70 is not very good, it is bord en line. 80 is good, i suppose. and then if you have between 150 and 100 it is not a problem. don't be afraid of having diabetes up to 150.

Ok, thanks for your comment. It's been up and down these last three days from 94 to 156 and now back down to 90. We had a late night Friday night and i think that was the reason it went back up again, but its steady again which is good.

i don't completely agree with you. you have to think that 156 is not an high level of diabetes.

That is great that he is able to maintain his blood glucose at bay. Diabetes is such a dreadful disease to have but with drastic change and discipline in your lifestyle it could be put at bay always and may not bother you for a long time. But you should also be aware that this is a degenerative disease that sometime in the future it may take its toll on you because of age. So while you are still young and strong it is best to always watch what you eat and follow your doctors medication to have a quality life with diabetes.

I appreciate your advice rsa101 and hopefully he will be able to maintain it and stick to what the doctor says and follow his diet, exercise and medication plan. We have our first Diabetes Education today so am looking forward to seeing the dietician there as well. Thanks again.

That is great news, I switched my medicine about 4 months ago and have brought my numbers down as well, and have lost 35 lbs, man am I feeling much better. This is a difficult disease to get under control, but with a lot of work and the right diet and meds it is attainable. Good luck with all of the above.

That's great news! I hope he continues to do well. Has there been any talk of taking Chromium? I take it to ease my sugar cravings and I heard it is good for diabetics to take. I mentioned it to my father way back when but he would only do what his doctor and/or nutritionist told him.

Chronium? no nothing has been mentioned about that. I need to look it up and maybe when we meet with his dietician on Monday we can talk to them about it. My husband will take anything to help fight this. Thanks for that Pat.

I am so pleased to hear how well your hubby is doing honey - that is absolutely marvellous and I bet you are both delighted! He should be very proud of himself and of you - you have been very supportive and your hubby probably needed that. The cinnamon tablets sound interesting - I will have to look into those for my sister! xxxx

I am pleased that he is doing well too. In my last discussion about cleaning out my cupboards, "wrongway" posted about her husband taking cinnamon tablets to help lower the blood glucose and apparently there is info online that my husband found and i posted the link on that discussion. He started taking it yesterday and i think its contributed to his blood glucose coming down from 145 to 94. Its too early to tell but will monitor it.

Congrats and Good Luck. My mom was going through a similar problem with her diabetes. She was just diagnosed about 2-3 weeks ago. So far her blood levels have been looking spectacular. She's been staying in the normal range and even seen a dietitian about her food choices. But I do have to say they told us different levels and while I worked as a med aide it was also from 80 to 120. So her levels have been running from 108 to 116. Way better than the 351 she was running when they drew her blood.

Congratulations to your mom too. My husbands original blood glucose test result was at 374 and I can't believe he is at 94 now. I hope this is normal and that we are able to keep it controlled. Good luck to you both too!
