My Mom is 86 and she likes to talk about things that have happened to her. The one thing that I really got a chuckle out of was when she lived at her other house. She told me that she always went out and put bread out for the birds. She had done this since the first day she had lived in the place. Well, one day she said she was in a hurry and forgot to put the bread out. She was at the kitchen sink washing up her dishes. The curtains was closed and all of a sudden she heard knocking on the window. Not just one knock but a lot of them. She drew the curtain back just enough to see what was going on. Well, she told me that there were at least five birds and they were pecking on her window. She brought bread out and spread it around. She said that as she was spreading the bread around the birds were making such a racket as though they were telling her not to forget there bread again.

That's so cute. My boyfriend told me a story quite the same, only it involved squirrels. He used to put out peanuts daily for them. One day he didn't and there was actually a knock on the door, well, the big door was opened and he could not see anyone standing there through the screen, he turned around, went about his business and there was another knock, even louder. He stood up and went to the door and there were 2 squirrels standing there with their hands out, seemingly scolding him for forgetting the peanuts!

These are things that would make a great camcorder moment and turn it into America's Funniest Animals. I love to watch that because of the things that are caught of animals doing. Animals do get used to being fed if it is done on a regular basis and make no bones about letting you know if you don't feed them. It is really cute to watch how they act. This is a cute story also.

I love to watch that show too. I do not have a cam corder, but with 7 dogs and 7 cats, I laugh a lot every day with the things they do!

That is darling - it reminds me of the lady, Mrs Base, who lived behind us in one of our homes in Texas. Mrs. Base fed the wild deer every evening. She would go out to her garage, get the food, spread it in her front yard, and the deer would come in to eat. On several occassions she didn't get the food out for them when they were ready to eat and the deer would actually come right up to her living room window and stand there looking, they didn't knock, until she'd go and feed them. I even got this on video tape one time when the kids and I were over visiting with her - the kids even though grown still talk about that and frequently ask where that video is and we'll all have to watch it.

LOL - don't blame her, it reminds me of that old movie "The Birds". Which also reminds me I'd better go out and fill the bird feeders before they start knocking on my windows - it's snowing again so sure they will be wanting food.

Wow what a great story to share. I miss those kind of stories. My mother has been gone 7 years. When I was a little girl I use to sit quietly in the kitchen just so I could listen to my mother and grandmother talk. Those stories of their lives and experiences were so fascinating to me. Sometimes I got to hear really juicy family gossip. Those are the kind of stories I hope my Grand daughter will enjoy hearing as I did when I was her age.

I love my Mom very much and I can sit for hours just listening to her talk. I am fascinated by the life she had with Dad. She called her self Dad's Geisha girl and she meant it. She waited on him hand and foot and did it out of love. He told her more than once that wasn't necessary and she responded back at him that she knew it wasn't but he was the love of her life. That she enjoyed waiting on him.

lol Those birds were reminding her in a not-so-nice way that she forgot to put out their food. My dad used to collect black walnuts when I was a kid and feed them to the squirrels in the winter. Once blustery winter day, my dad was late putting out the walnuts. Well, one of the squirrels came right up to the patio door and looked in. It was so funny how that squirrel stood there on his hind legs, front claws gripping the screen and looking in while chattering up a storm. I told my dad he was getting cussed at in squirrel language for not putting his food out early in the morning.

That would have made a good picture. The squirrel standing on his hind legs cussing up a storm for his food not being there at the time it normally is. That would have been a picture that would have won a prize in a photo contest. I was laughing when I read it here.

That is something I have never believed is that animals are dumb. I have had animals almost all my life and have seen the evidence that animals are smart. The things some of my pets have done over the years looking back say to me that they know exactly how to get what they want and sometimes I wonder if we are the masters are are they the masters. I love animals and it fascinates me to watch them.

That is a cute story. I'm sure your mom was laughing as well as she was spreading the bread around at those birds letting her know not to forget them again.

She was laughing as she told me about it. She couldn't get over the fact that they were knocking on her window. She said she never forgot them again.

Oh my goodness! What a sweet story! I guess those birds were hungry!
We have a guinea pig that belongs to my 14 year old daughter. She is very good about feeding him every night, but I like to take him treats of carrots or fresh grass every once in a while. So whenever I walk by her bedroom, if he sees me, he starts squealing like crazy! He's telling me he wants a treat! lol! I can't help but laugh every time I hear him!

It's funny how animals can get used to something and I know for a fact that they definitely have their way of letting us know if we forget to do something for them that they are used to us doing. I don't now but in the past I have had dogs and cats at different times. They definitely had their way of showing if they were mad or just wanted something done from me.

Animals are more intelligent than we give them credit for. I have 7 horses here right now. And if I am not out to feed them first thing in the morning, as soon as I open the door to go outside, they'll start bellering at me. Espcially my barrel horse, Biscuit, if thinks I might be going anywhere near the grain barrels, he has gotten to where he expects me to take him a handfull.
My Grandparents used to live in Bullhead City, Arizona. My grandmother used to sit out on their patio and she started putting food out for the roadrunners. Eventually, they got to where they would come up and take the food from her hand. We've even got pictures of it. It was a daily routine for them and they would show up every morning.
Animals know who to trust, and if they can get an easy meal, all the better.
