Me and a few friends were having this discussions about slipknot, just wandering if they are satanists or atheists?
Although they say they would rather be called atheists, so they say, all of their DVD's have got the black goat on either their drums or in the background which is TOTALLY Satanism.
Do you think that SlipKnot being Satanist is a bad thing and why?
What do you think?

LOL, I know almost every single lyric from hearing their songs so many times over and over, but if I cant make out what they are saying, I always go to my friend who is also a huge fan of them and he can tell you any lyric or what they are saying just by listening to the song at least 2 times!
Thanks for responding!

Honestly I have no idea why they do the things they do. I haven't listened to them in awhile but if they claim to be atheist then that is probably what they are. Some people don't realize the symbolism of some things and just think it's cool or it just makes people think and question their ideals, which makes them more popular. It could be any number of reasons!

Why do you think Satanism is a BAD thing? hehe What should it matter anyways....they DO rock. It may just be the image they're goin for, ya know like Marilyn Manson. Who cares what religion people are, it's not important, at least not to me. But then again, I'm anti-religion, doesn't mean non believers aren't good people. ;) SheIsntReal

Haha. No, Slipknot are not Satanists. They have used the goat in their artwork but the goat is not specifically associated with Satanism. Eg for Jews the goat is a 'clean' animal, for Pagans it relates to Pan and for Satanists it relates to Baphomet and/or the inverted pentagram. Itself simply a rejection of the Holy Trinity and not praise for Satan. With the exception of Iowa none of their sleeves contain anything more than a tenuous link to any Satanic symbolism or imagery.
I also think yuo may be confusing Satanism with devil worship. Satanists have no belief in Satan or the devil as a physical entity. neither he not God exist. Satanism is about expression and indulgence of one own self not following the wishes or commands of a deity.
I recommend you read the first two books of Anton La Vey's Satanic Bible to show you what Satanism is really about.
Incidentally Marilyn Manson is NOT a Satanist either. he met La Vey and was offered a position in the Church Of Satan but Manson passed on it believing that, although he agree with a great many of the ideals,it wasn't for him.
Satanist you may know of include Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Marc Almond (formerly) of Soft Cell, Jayne Mansfield and Sammy Davis Jr

How did you come to the conclussion they might even be such things, they dont exactly call for people to worship satan or anyone, the closest is the heretic anthem with " if your 555 then im 666 ", i mean everyone thought ozzy and black sabbath where the same yet they sung about god more than the devil
