we here in southern ontario (canada) are in a bit of a blizzard (thanks to our neighbours to the south - it started in the ohio valley!!) my co-worker called me this morning to see if i was going to work, i said no (mostly due to this nasty flu bug i am experiencing). then my boss calls and says we are delaying going into work for a bit (i work for a small company) then he calls me at 9:30 to say that they are going in (keep in mind EVERYTHING is shut down due to this blizzard, schools, malls etc) and i said that i was staying put due to the bug the boss lives on a main street, one that is one of the first ones plowed, but the rest of us all live in courts etc... my question to you is, would you risk your life to go to work?

I don't you should risk anything if you know that the chance for survival is low. My mom is in Toronto and she said she'd rather not work tomorrow than risk having to walk for how many miles since there are no buses available. If the snow storm will cease this midnight, she might consider going to work after the roads are cleared.

I don't think that you should risk your health or your safety trying to get to work because your safety is a lot more important than what a job is and you can always get another job but you can't come back to life if you die in a car accident.

I'm in a weird position, I work shift work, and there is a shift waiting to be relieved, so, I feel guilty staying home. I'm in Ontario too, and it is pretty nasty, but, I guess I'm one of the crazy ones who did risk life and limb to get to work. The boss is letting some go early, so, I guess that's something.

Hey Sweets, If my job was working with people..nurse,doctor,caregiver I would try to make it no mater what but if I'm selling, office ,etc I would most likely stay home.. My comute is rough..I comute to the kitchen to grab a coffee then to a comfy chair or sometimes my bed with my phone and laptop and I have arrived at the office.. I am so happy with this job and the company..I wish everyone in the world would come in. xoxoxoxoxo

Heck no!. You can always get another job but you can't get another life. When I lived on the east coast and it was snow and ice my job had a snow line where you could call in to see if the call center was closed. Even when it wasn't and it was heavy snow I called out. No way am I risking getting into a serious accident just to go to work. It's not worth getting killed over a stupid job. Snow and ice can be very dangerous and when it snowed or was really bad my butt was at home.

I work and live downtown. Getting to work was easy, I hopped on the bus the same way I do every day. If you don't drive, a little bit of weather is no big deal.

Before answering your question, I have to say don't blame the Ohio Valley for the snow you got lol! They told us the morning the front passed through here, we were supposed to get a mixture of everything before it left. That morning all it did was rain!!! We have nothing to do with what the storm decided to do once it got to you in Ontario lol. But to answer your question, no I wouldn't. If I see that the streets that I need in order to get out and on my way to work aren't plowed, I would not risk my life on those streets. I live next to a main street, so if that street isn't plowed and salted, there must be some major backup with the trucks somewhere. At any rate its just not worth it to go out there.

Of course NO. We only have one life to live. If we lost it, we can't regain it. On the other hand, we can always look for another job if we are terminated from work.

i definatly would not risk my life to go to work. i quit a job because my boss wouldn't let me come in late when my shoes were soaked it was the middle of winter and i was working at a car wash out doors. all i wanted to do was let my shoes dry and come in for the later shift and he wantd me to come in right away so rather than catch namonia i quit

Me, no never. I however Know a family member that did a High risk job and they got paid extremely well. I guess you have to live with your decisions at the end of the day so what we think does not really matter. Remember this though, You are worth keeping safe!

I am lucky enough to work from home. So for me it's not an issue. But my husband works with the medical community and has to travel 10-15 miles to get to work. We had a storm day before yesterday, and like you things closed down. However my hubby still had to go in. He did wait until after 11 am to start. I suppose he was waiting for the plows. The plow that came down our street got here at around 1 pm. There were accidents all over the highways and side roads. I wouldn't risk my life. You only have one you. And as difficult as it may be to find, another job is easier to get than a new you.

I work for the government and they have this insane policy about attendance but I made it very clear to them when they hired me 3 years ago that if my children were off of school because of the weather I would not be coming in. If it isn't safe enough for my kids to be transported to school I'm not risking leaving them orphans just to go to work that day.
