I'd have to say the Frog and Toad books. Don't know why exactly, but I've always kept that memory with me. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog_and_Toad

Ooooh, what a great (and tough) question! I don't know if I'm going to be able to narrow it down to just one! Can I cheat and choose a couple different ones since my fave changed as I got older? I have to agree that I always adored The Very Hungry Caterpillar (and it's still my fave by Eric Carle). Gotta love a book you can poke your fingers through and play with! lol Even better than that one for me though is one called Stand Back Said the Elephant, I Think I'm Going to Sneeze. It's this great story where all the jungle animals are panicked because the elephant is going to sneeze and they are telling what happened to them the last time he did so. When I started reading chapter books, I fell in love with Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. I actually read that one before I even read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Totally MHO here, but I think the Glass Elevator beats the Chocolate Factory all to pieces! After getting even a little older, I got turned on to Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time. I first read that one when I was in seventh grade and have loved it ever since.

Did you know that "A Wrinkle in Time" is now out of print? I have been trying to get a copy of it so my son can read it. I read it in high school and loved it, too.

Oh my goodness! I had no idea they'd taken it out of circulation! That makes me very glad I held on to the copy I got when I was in school. I'm going to make sure I keep it in very good condition so I'll be able to let my kids read it when they get old enough too. Thanks for the heads up on that one! :-)

You're welcome. I'm so glad they have never taken To Kill a Mockingbird out of circulation! That's my all time favourite, at least twice a year I read it. (Hated the movie incidentally, as the character of Scout was ruined!)

Whwn I was 7 or 8 years old my favourite books were the ones about Bomba. The first one of the collection was "Bomba, the jungle boy". The second was "Bomba and the moving mountain". I don't remember other names, but there were about a dozen titles in the collection. The author was Roy Rockwood.

I was a Dr. Seuss fan, and McElligot's Pool and Scrabbled Eggs Super were probably my favorites to be read. I also enjoyed looking at the pictures in McElligot's Pool. I also loved my dad to read us from the Oz books, and somewhere I have a good collection of them, packed in a shed... :(

grins, oh my memories are dregded up. i was a fan of nancy drew and hardy boys till around 12 years old since i can't remember when. the first time i learnt to read?? grins i don't know why i loved them so much at tht time. i can just remember always searching for their books. in fact, i basically finished all their books in the school library and got really bored when i couldn't find others. hehehe used to read while walking also and always got a scolding from my friends and mom. hehehe maybe it's the mystery factor and also the realistic way the authors wrote their characters. really made me feel as if i was watching a movie and i could even put sounds to their voices. how they would sound basically. grins. hehehe sometimes i would link up the 3 main gals frm nancy drew books with the 3 main guys frm the hardy boys. hehehe loved it when i used to find books with them mixed together. one of my favourites then. hehehe now i don't really read them though. go for more mature ones. hehehe though all romantic mysteries of course, and thrillers and suspense with of course a tinge of romance. tht is a must.

Hands down my favorite was an illustrated Greek Mythology. My grandmother got it from the library when I was 10 to read on a long trip we were making to see my aunt in Texas. It sparked an interest in the mythology and since that time I have read just about anything I can get my hands on in that subject area. Plus my grandmother special ordered that illustrated mythology for me and gave it to, so it is doubly special because my grandmother and I are very close.

You have very good taste. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is an all time favourite of mine, too. I also loved anything by Roald Dahl, especially Danny, Champion of the World. Other favourites include Possum Magic, and Wombat Divine by Mem Fox, and Wombat Stew. Being a kinder teacher means I never have to give up my favourites, but can introduce a whole new generation to them!
