My wife got an ice cream maker for Christmas a year ago and it wasn't until recently that she FINALLY got it out of the packaging and started making her own ice cream.
OMG! It's like the best ice cream I have ever had, and whatever we have leftover... fruit going a little soft, nuts, CHOCOLATE!, or whatever, we can add it to the mix and have our own personalized ice cream.
Do any of you have an ice cream maker and if you do what is your experience with it?

Tell me about it. We didn't have a deep freezer at the time either and it drove me bonkers when I had to wait to enjoy my creation. I can't have ice cream in the house cause I'll literally sit and go thru a whole carton in one sitting and want more afterwards. Chocolate and ice cream are my 2 weaknesses that I find very very hard to resist.

I used to have an icecream maker but one part has to be replaced to make it work again.
The recipe I gave in one of my discussions does not need an icecream maker - It tastes really yummy and is very easy to make.
And when you make your own icecream, you know what the ingredients are, which is not always the case when you buy it in a bar or shop.
You find the recipe in my profile among discussions I have started.

Heck no I don't have one. Do I want one yes indeedy! But my biggest food downfall is ice cream. Shoot I would be as big as a barn if I had one that I could make ice cream any time I wanted too. LMAo Glad you are FINALLY enjoying yours however.

Breadmaker..ok ok, I'll admit it, I'm a bread junkie when it comes to bread fresh out of the breadmaker. Warm and oh so melt-in-your-mouth good. Went thru 3 in 2 years. lol

We do not have an ice cream maker, and I have never had home made ice cream. I would not mind trying it because I do not really care of the ice cream we buy at the store. I wonder if it would be cheaper than buying your own, considering it would be like the full rich milk ice cream, not the ice milk that passes for ice cream in the store, and would have real vanilla plus all those nuts and everything. I'm getting hungry already!

I have not really priced it out how much it costs to make the ice cream and then you need room in the freezer. If you have one of those deep freezers that you put in the garage that is the ideal situation!
It really doesn't matter to me 'cause like you the taste of the ice cream is so much better making it myself than buying it from a store.

I guess the ice cream maker is one of the things I will save to buy after I get my Old Age Security. That list is getting longer and longer all the time.

We got one in the summer, because a friend was having such a blast using hers. I can't wait to use it, we were out of house for 4 months, due to major water damage while we were on vacation. So once all the boxes are unpacked I want to start making our own ice cream.

We had a similar situation where someone flushed a toilet and the handle got stuck in the down position and it was an older model that didn't stop the water so we woke up in the morning with our whole house flooded. It is amazing how much water one toilet in a few hours can output.
Thank God we were not in a place where we were paying for water or we would have had not just an expensive cleanup but an expensive water bill to boot.

I received an ice cream maker for Christmas several years back, but being a rather old teenager, I didn't see the need for one and have only taken it out of the box to look at it. I never have the time or anyone around that would want to partake in trying to make our own ice cream, so I just don't worry about it. It's still at home collecting dust. I will have to pull it out and try it sometime though. Homemade ice cream is rather tasty.

Try it out. See if you like it... just the process of making the ice cream is fun and making funky flavors is also cool.
I love watching the food network and they are working with like avacados and they make an ice cream out of it and I'm like NO WAY then the judges try it and they liked it! And there is stuff that is weirder than that that has done into 'the deep freezer' in kitchen stadium.

I can remember those old fashioned wooden barrel crank type ice cream makers, that is what we had when I was a youngster - we'd get together with the neighbors and all take turns cranking the handle.. ..
after I was a teen we bought mom and dad one that fit on their kitchen center machine.... we always picked fresh berries and other fruit - and these were great to use in the desserts...
my father would make the MOST outstanding frozen yogurt flavored with wild blueberries.... oh I wanna go back home. I miss my Daddy.

Things have been made so much easier. No more rock salt and cranking... all you need is electricity and some room in the freezer.
To make soft-serve don't let it set up as long... and like you say you can put berries and all other kinds of fruit in there.
Say high to daddy for me!

Yes, we have an ice cream maker. When I was little we had one also so I have been around them for a long time. One time when our kids were young we made ice cream and put food coloring in it without the kids knowing and when the ice cream was ready we told them it wasn't "ripe" yet. They sure did laugh after we told them what we did. We usually make ice cream one or two times during the summer when our grandson is here visiting. I love home made ice cream, it is so good.

I don't have one yet but I want one. I've had homemade and it is the best! you can put anything you want in it and you can also make sugar free.

EXACTLY. People are like OMG you have an ice cream maker you are going to be big as a house. Quite the contrary. I know exactly what is going in there and that is the beauty of it... I have blueberries that came from the farmer's market and some of them aren't really firm they either go into a shake or into some ice cream.
I don't know if we've done the sugar-free yet but that is definately one for me to put on my list.
Thanks for the great idea.!
