Losing Weight Effectively

Last year, my wife had made me a bet to lose some weight. I was 37 years old and stand at 5'10"(182cm) and was 188lbs(85kg). I definitely had some extra pounds on me. Guys, ever get home after work and get the belt off where you can finally breathe? The pressure of the belt against your gut for 8-10 hours takes it toll. Ladies, how about the pantyhose making the tracks around your waistline? You all know what I'm talking about. The bet was from May 1st - July 1st. I was to lose 17.5lbs(8kg). Pretty ambitious for an 8 week time frame. My wife told me that her father and cousin were now in the bet too. That meant one thing, I couldn't lose and seriously needed to get started. So for the first week, I hit my exercise routine hard; party, party and then party some more!!! That had to change quickly.
Now I must tell you. I'm an average guy with no professional fitness backround. I am NOT an expert and I will tell you why that is important for you to know and understand. So for the next 7 weeks, I was able to not only lose my target weight but exceed it!! On July 1st (actually June 30th), I had dropped 22lbs(10kg)!! I kept the card that I was keeping track of my weight loss.
About the experts. You all know that there are many out there, right? So you have to ask yourself something. With so many experts, so many diets, so many exercise programs, etc., why are so many people still fighting the weight battle? In my belief, effective weight loss boils down to several different categories:
1) Eating
2) Exercising
3) Habits
4) Courage (Courage you ask? Yes, courage)
5) Time
6) Discipline
7) Goals / Confidence
Without changing these, you will NEVER effectively lose weight, period!! And if you do, GOOD LUCK keeping it off! I can give you all of the tips, all of the advice and all of the equipment but your success can only be determined by one thing; YOU!! Now if you want to ask or get an expert and spend hundreds if not thousands of $$$, by all means I wish you good luck.
I effectively lost weight by the categories above. I can admit that I like my new self more now. Wouldn't you like to say that?
Thank you again for your time reading this. So how are you doing with your weight loss quest?
P.S. You might be asking about the effectively part of my title. Wondering if I still maintained the weight? Am I still doing the routine? Or am I like millions of other people that lost and gained it back shortly after stopping? I can tell you this. I thought I would! When the bet was over, we had all lost or exceeded our target weights. So to make it more interesting, my father made another bet to maintain the new weight. The new bet was from July - November (5 months)!!! I thought I was doomed. However, we all managed to do it again. I'm now 38 years old and only fluctuate 1-2lbs a week. Take care and again, please let me know your story. How are you doing???
