Do you think lebron will stay around long enough to do this? He entered the league at 18 and is off to a better start than kobe did at 18. Kobe could also do it because he was the youngest ever to reach 20,000 points. Kareem has a total of 38,387 points. Its possible they both could break Kareems record. Who has a better chance kobe or lebron. My pick is kobe because he has more of a complete game.

Yeah, LeBron has the physicality to have the longevity to do so. Kobe's point production may take a dip, but that is up to him like with this season him doing like Jordan and getting the team more involve, and distributing the scoring load, but Kobe still has the scoring capacity to threaten the record. Kobe however may not have the desire to break this record if it would be counter productive to winning championships which is any players' ultimate goal. His desire isn't going to be that strong especially if there is somebody behind him such as LeBron who will eventually eclipse him.

it will be hard for both of them but it is not impossible. both of them has a great chance of breaking into kareem's record. both are great scorers. kobe's scoring i think will dip down a little because of the acquisition of pau gasol because pau will carry some of the lakers offense and kobe will not need to score a lot like he use to, he will now have a lot of support from pau, lamar and bynum on the offensive and defensive end. lebron's stats in my opinion will not change unless they acquire a player that will help lebron in scoring.
