internet on LAN

i m living in a hostel. i have a pc over there. our hostel has a lan system. each room is connected by lan. we use internet through this lan. but from some days i m not able to connect to internet. all the other students can do it. my lan connection also seems to be alright. there seems to be some in my computer settings. i tried a lot of things. but failed. some days ago my computer was infected by some virys. it also can be a cause. please tell me what to do. if some computer genius is over there.
