I know it is not safe to meet many people online (especially for children being deceived). But how many friends have you actually really met (or at least talked on the phone) with?
What was it like? I have met maybe 4 or 5 I think over the years. I have been very careful. But ones I have met with, of course, in a public place, or if a very close person, then invited them over, but when whole family is around.
When in sickness, or need support in debilitating illnesses, I have made friends forever, who I appreciated so much. Would love to hear your happy tales. And also of course your UNhappy experiences.

Wow, you have traveled all around to meet each other. Gosh. I'm glad you hae had such great results! "Pogo"? I only remember that word being used when pogo sticks came out (those kind of jump rope things that you swing around your ankle. ;o)

I've met several from the guitar forum I've belonged to for ten years. They're a wonderful bunch, like another family. We've shared births, deaths, divorces, marriages, all the things you live through with your friends.
I think you definitely have to be careful but I'm sure the majority of people online are safe and worth meeting.

Thanks for responding, and I'm glad it was through a musical instrument that you love. I love instruments too. But haven't been much on musical forums long term, chatting. Wow! Births, deaths, divorces, marriages, etc. You must be a person who makes great friends very well. :o) Keep it up.

I have only met 1 person. And the only reason I did, is because she was friends w/ someone that I knew many years ago. It was so wierd how it happened. I met her in a myspace group. She was a troubled teen, and i was helping her through some stuff. It turned out that her best friend was marrying a guy that use to be MY bestfriend when i was 16, 10 years ago. and she lives about 2 hours away from me. so we met once while she was passing through. Then, not too long ago we met up again, and she ended up staying at my place overnight. If it hadn't been for her acquaintance w/ someone i trusted, I wouldn't have taken the chance. I'm glad i did w/ her, because she's one of my bestfriends, now.

That's a very nice story, and glad it had a happy ending. It's good that you are very careful. If I have met anybody, have made sure to make it very safe. It is nice to find either long lost friends or new friends with familiar connections. Enjoy your friendship!

Over the years I have met many people from online. When I was addicted to yahoo chat we had what we referred to as chat parties. They were usually held in a public place and a few at a specific person's house. I like the ones better at the house.
The first "Chat" party I ever went to was down in Oklahoma. The man lived out in the country so we set it up for a BBQ. There was several people there that we communicated with on a daily basis. It was pretty cool too. Lasted all weekend. I still talk to a few of these people here and there but I don't go to chat anymore.
The other "Chat" party I went to was in Kansas and I was meeting a guy whom I had been talking to on the internet for like 3 months. I went up the night before the party to meet him and get to know him. Things went over pretty well so I ended up staying for the chat party. There was about 30 people at this one and I didn't know them all or desire to know them all. However we had a great time. He also ended up coming home with me and we had a relationship for about 2 years. I'm not going to go into detail but we are no longer together, in fact he married someone else last year.

Wow!
That is impressive. I had never heard of a chat party before, but that's a great idea, if you are all in the same chatroom.Yes, the only time I went in chat rooms was when internet first really came out for all of us in the public, as it was exciting. And that's great that you dated one of them so long term also. Of course, many of us have done the dating/date search online. That way I have met several people, but didn't think of that as much like meeting somebody online.
Two of my good friends who I made through a forum before, sadly passed away. One of them had come to visit me often, and it was so sad when she passed away. But we were in a medical setback forum, so we had each other's shoulder's to cry on.
Glad you had such success. Good for you! :o)
