This medication nearly killed me and I am not kidding. My GYN prescribed this to for me in 2003. I do not remember what it was for. But, I took it twice and my heart started beating real fast and I felt anxious and to this day, I jerk in my sleep still.
Sometimes when I am asleep, I will suddenly jerk. It started when I started this medication. It is not nearly as bad as it was but, it still concerns me. I am very sensitive to most medications, but nothing had affected me like this. I do not remember why I did not go to the emergency room, but I must have had a real good reason, because this stuff scared me good. Has anyone else had a similar experience with Erythromycin?

My son has hd Erythromycin a few times when we were in Samoa for his chest infections and such and has had no problems with using this antibiotic. It could be that you may be allergic to it Rozie, did you ever have the chance to talk to your doctor about it? I had not realised that some antibiotics can do this to someone.

You know our family doctor says he has allergies but he has not been tested for any. He has been given clariten and nasalnex nose spray and it seems to help him. He is schedule for tests next week though.

Oh poor kid. They had prescribed that same nasal spray. I had to lay on my back and squirt it in my nose. It burned and made me feel like I was going to drown. I stop taking it.
I am allergic to a lot of things now, that I was not allergic to as a child. I use to love the smell of things like gas, Pine-Sol, and fingernail polish remover. Now, the smell of these things trigger and Asthma attack.
Also, strong perfumes, soaps, and other fragrances irritate my lungs. I am also allergic to a lot of dust. I remember my first Asthma attack in my thirties. I was sweeping a rug at my sister's house and I started breathing heavy and could not stop myself.
I had been diagnosed with Asthma as a child, but had never had any problems, so I did not believe that the diagnosis was accurate. The older I get, the worse my Asthma is. I never knew that Asthma could be such a pain in the behind.

As I said, I am sensitive to a lot of different medications. Ones that may not cause any problems for most people, are too much for me to take. I am glad that your son was able to successfully take them. I know that he has Asthma, but does he also have allergies? I have both.

I am allergic to penicillen. The erythromycin upsets my stomach, I don't like taking that medicine. You sound like my mom, being sensitive to all kinds of medications. You have to be extra careful with what you take. You can also develop allergies at any time, also you can develop asthma too. It must have been so scary for that to happen to you. I don't like taking medicine, once its in you, its not easy to just get it out of you if you have a reaction. Take care.

Eyrhtromycin does not have that effect on me, but it does cause me to either break out in hives REALLY bad or it makes the throw up REALLY bad. I don't remember which... I have reactions to many antibiotics (sulfur type) and pain killers. The antibiotics break me out and the painkillers make me puke. I have found a few that I can take. Fortunately I'm not sick that much!

I know, it's so hard to find something that works for me that I can take. My doctors track everything and try to find the right things for me. And I'm just midly allergic.

I am also allergic to at least one pain killer. That is Celebrex. It caused the inside of my hand to itch real bad and I had leg cramps. A lot of people are allergic to it. The sad part is that this pain medicine really works well. But it is not worth it.

Hi Rozie37! I never had the same effect from any other antibiotics such as erythromycin. Does your GYN know about it? Maybe you are allergic to it. It does worry me because there are certain medications that are contraindications with other medications and may cause heart beating faster or vice versa. I am no expert but I think you are right in being scared if it does affect your system when you take this medication. Please be careful in taking medications and do tell your doctor about how it is really affecting you. Just worried about you my friend. Take care and have a nice day! :)

I usually look up the medication and find out all the information that I can about it, before taking it, but I still have not heard about anything like what happened to me. Maybe there is a website just for this medication. I will go and check it out now.

No but I had on with Pennicillin, over christmas my face swelled up to the size of a blimp in the Macy's parade. I was in so much pain I could barely talk, the doctor said it was two not one impacted tooth. They told me the Penicillin would clear up the infection, I went home and took it and then the itching started, after that the pains in my chest came then I woke up in the hospital with an extreme allergic reaction to the antibiotic, how terrible was that.

I have never had a problem with Erythromycin but I dont remember ever taking it but I'm sure I have. Different medicines affect people in different ways. I cant take Amoxicilin, bioxon, or sulfas. My mother is allergic to Erythromycin and her doctor knew it and prescribed her z-pack i think it was and it almost killed her. It made her gallbladder and kidneys shut down. After that I remember they started putting warnings that people who are allergic to erythromycin cant take the zithromax stuff I think it was. I think if I remember correctly zythromax is called z-pack.

I avoid antibiotics like they were the plague. I don't like what they do to our bodies, and it takes longer for us to recover our energy when we take them. if I have to, then I make sure it is one that I have had in the past and that I am not allergic to. It sounds like you had an allergic reaction of some sort.
