I am leaving Moscow to do in the future when I go on the trans Siberian Railway. One of my friends worked in Moscow as a teacher. She told me it is very cold in the winter and it is quite expensive there. I have booked a flight to Latvia this summer and am hoping to go to St Petersburg. However I can't apply for visas yet for us. It is expensive to go there as accommodation is costly it seems. If you go to Moscow I hope that you will have a wonderful time.

I'm sure that if you think about visiting Moscow, then you will definitely like its style and traditions of the city. You will find absoltely great number of places to see, including museums, theatres and different exhibitions, plus lot of monuments all around the city.
Well, if you really want to visit Moscow to see all the main tourist places, i would advice you to go on a tour, so that you will not face any difficulties during your travelling. Of course, it will cost you more money.
But if you are going to travel amone or with your family/friend, then you always can have a look on different hotels in the city in the internet. The only thing is your budget, how much you want to spend. Moscow is a very expensive place - you may find hotels for $200 per night or more. But that doesn't mean we don't have anyhting cheaper in here.
Almost all the hotels in the center of the city are expensive. If you want to save, you can try to see some hostels, that are available int he center, they are much cheaper (http://www.hostels.com/en/ru.mo.html)
As for restaurants, so well, we have all possible cuisins in Moscow, depends on you - what you like and prefer. You with no problems find a good restaurant in the city. Fastfood restaurants are everywhere, such as McDonalds, Rostiks, etc. Many sushi bars n' Japanese, Chinese restaurants int he center of Moscow.
In common, Moscow is expensive. So you have to plan your budget for as many days as you want to stay there.
Have a very nice trip!

i went to moscow several years ago and loved it. it was part of a package tour so i don't have a lot of specifics about restaurants and prices as much of it was just paid for up front. i do remember having to pay for a lot of stuff in US dollars instead of rubles though. also, the hotel we stayed at was the hotel ukraine (http://www.moscow-hotels.net/ukraine-hotel/). again, i can't vouch for prices but it was quite a lovely hotel.
