Dating

Ok.. so a friend of mine brought up a good question so I figured I'd pass it along here and see what others thought of it too. The conversation was on dating, and he said that he wasn't looking to date right now and just wanted to be friend with people and get to know them. So another of our friends made the comment that she thinks people have the wrong idea about dating. They associate dating with being romanticly involved where her idea of dating is...setting up a date and time to go places, to talk and/or do fun things being "Friends" and getting to know someone or several people. Dating can consist of a group of friends or acquaintences getting to know each other rather than a romantic evening between 2 people.
So now with her definition if I went out with say a female friend to a movie or bowling.. is that a date then? Cause thats two people going out to talk and do fun stuff.
To me I assoicate dating with the possibility of romance happening in the future. Meaning two people are going out in order to get to know eachother better in hopes of a future romantic connection. So what do you guys think.. what is your defnition of dating?

Your definition is exactly like mine. I am going out with this person to get to know them and see if there is a possibility of romance later on. I guess that's why I never dated. All the guys I went out with and are currently with we never went out to get to know each other, there was already romance there. Don't get me wrong, we did go out, but either as friends or a couple.

LOL.. I know a lot of people who never "dated." I dated my sweety though... but our encounter was slightly different then most anyway. I don't think I would change how him and I came about, but it was well.. unorthodox to say the least.
Most of my relationships though started off as us being friends frist and then something sparking a bit ways through the friendship.

LoL, ya Jerry and I met at work so the sparks hit before we needed to start dating...unless you call him taking me home dating ;p
I honestly don't know anyone anymore that does date!! The only time I do see it is in the movies, LoL.

i go out with my buddies all the time and we aint on no damn date. your friend has a wierd way of lookin at things.
i dated my wife for 2 years before we got married. we were a couple and together and werent with anyone else. we were comitted to 1 another that is dating.
