I want to do mine online. I'm not used to doing state taxes where I am from we didnt have them but here we do. Any good websites to do them online? I tryed HR BLock & TaxAct both said I owed so Im not in any big hurry to file but both gave diff amnts owed and stuff (well I owed a lil Federal & am do back on state) so if there are any other good websites I'd like to run it thru there just to see. Maybe Im missing a deduction or something.

i hate those free files at irs.gov. yeah the federal is free but you have to pay for the state. i work for h and r block and they and jackson hewitt are rip offs. No need to pay $200 to sit at my desk for 15 min. So i'm going into business my self charging $80 for everything that they do. Take H and R block courses. YOu can find them on there website.

We use Turbo Tax. Our taxes are pretty straight forward so we feel comfortable getting it done this way. If our taxes were more complicated I would pay someone. We get pretty good tax refunds so I dont complain. We have been using them for as long as I can remember and we have never had a problem.

I have used esmarttax.com and completetax.com to compare my taxes. I had the same amount on both, but I'm a single guy with no kids or house, filing the easiest way possible.
Those 2 websites are *FREE* for federal filing. Usually if you search for your home state's Dept of Revenue, they typically offer some sort of free filing. You can also check out volunteer programs in your area (you might have to meet specific income requirements).

Hi. You can try turbotax. I always take my tax paperwork to Jackson Hewitt. I am so afraid to mess my txes up and have an audit on me or not figure it right and owe later or shortchange myself. I am still waiting on paperwork to go file this time. I am scared to have to owe this time too.

We had our taxes done at H&R block. They charged us 207.00. I will never use their service again ever. Maybe a private tax preparer would be the way for you to go. Just find out the fee amount before doing your return. I wish we would have done that.

this is one of the few things i splurge on by actually paying an accountant. i'm self employed so sometimes the deductions can be very complicated. for me, paying a CPA that 200 bucks is so worth it for all the time, hassle, and worry he saves me - not to mention money!
