Unlocked GSM Phones

Whats your take on unlocking gsm phones so they can be used with any service provider? Do you look at it like an illegal thing where a company has a right to lock the phone and limit certain things to their liking? Or is it a source of freedom where people should have the choice of having a phone hot THEY like it? Is unlocking a phone almost like stealing it away from its service provider? I have a unlocked gsm phone, just wondering about other's opinions.

I don't think it is steraling since you already bought the phone. They do not have the right over it anymore since its already yours. I think they are doing it because they want the subscriber to be loyal with them but then I think as a consumer I have the right to choose what I want and if I want to use the phone to another service provider I have the right to it since the phone is already mine.
