If I report a discussion, and mind you, I don't report unless people are cheating; but If I report a discussion, it takes a good 24 hours before the discussion is deleted. I happened to witness a discussion or two in which a friend was sooo pissed that he vented to the max. Within a couple of hours, both discussions were gone.
ARE WE FACING A BIG BROTHER SCENERIO. DO WE NOT HAVE A VOICE. IF WE ARE NOT A PART OF THE ELITE ARE WE DOOMED.
Just something to think about. This scares me and I have brought it to mylot attention. I urge all to do likewise. the small group should not be allowed to do this to all of us.
Thank you

Well I really do not know what the content of the deleted discussion. If it really is offensive then I guess it deserved to be deleted. Well I guess this is virtual world it does not mean that everything is allowed in here. We still have to chose which ones are right or wrong. I don't have an investment in here I just post if they don't like it then they could delete it if they want it to.

Yes it was offensive. The OP was very, very very angry and I didn't see the post that made him angry, so I cannot comment on that. My point is that if I report a discussion for cheating, it takes a good 24 to 48 hours to delete. Because this man was fighting with a group that has the ear of MYlot, the discussions were deleted in less than 3 hours. Reminds me of high school. Only the elite have the say.

Well I guess we have no way of knowing how fast they are at deleting post. But what is important is that there is really censorship is important in running this website or it can be abused. I guess the lenght of time depends on them if you report a cheater they will not immediately put an action into it since they have to investigate if your allegation is true or not. If they see an ouright violation of the rules they imposed I think they do not need to investigate further and must delete it immediately. I guess for as long as you post following the rules they set you don't need to worry that much.

Hmmm I disagree. I've seen the good and the bad. I don't like censorship, but that's even the point. A few can do and say what they want. And they have their way. If you don't go for the fringe topics, you'll never know.
Thanks for responding anyway.

They may have a priority list for the order in which they handle things and offensive topic or heated discussions may just bubble to the top.
I have no idea who may have an inside track on mylot, and I have to wonder if that really does happen.

It's just a feeling. I mean, what is the priority? Angry people do not cost the site. Cheaters do. I only report cutters and pasters and it takes a lifetime. Someone gets angry and it takes minutes. I'm not taking any sides of the arguement, in this case. I don't take sides, usually. It's just that it took seconds from when I saw someone say that they reported the discussion, to when it was gone. My paranoid me comes out. So this person has a say and I don;'t? I haven't seen anything to prove me wrong.

No, angry people do cost -- I personally, get turned off by anger and hostility and just turn it off. If it continued I might just leave. I get enough anger in my life, I don't need to get it on the internet

Firstly, why would anyone want to report a discussion simply because he/she finds it offensive? (And offensive by whose definition?) This is a worldwide open forum, where it should have occurred to the participants that there are bound to be various viewpoints on just about any issue discussed! Why report people simply because you do not agree with their views? I believe such acts to be ditactorial and very indicative of a very narrow-minded individual.

In that case, simply have proof that you are the original author of the work; and if it really bothers you, you can then take the entity to court.

I agree with you. Funny, huh. But unless I see someone who is flagrantly copying and posting someone else's discussion, I don't report. I only do it because because as a writer, I know how it is to place stock in my work, only t have it taken.

Sorry sweety I know this is a serious discussion but I thought you were admitting something with the title of this discussion LMAO
To the serious part of the post I have to say I agree that it has seemed for a long time now that certain people can have discussions wiped as though by a magic wand while others are ignored!
It is wrong but I don't suppose there is much we can do about it apart from stand our ground and continue on - why let others chase us from a place we have built a community and made friendships - heck even played matchaker for our kids! lol
Funny how he was warned the discussion was disappearing though wasn't it? Not that it might be gone but that it WOULD be gone and soon! xxx

I think that if the discussion was really offensive to everyone that it probably should have been reported because if it would have offended alot of people...those people might have stopped coming to mylot.com(I mean would you if you went somewhere and got offended)I wouldn't. I don't understand why people would try and offend people because that is really pointless to try and hurt other people just because you are mad or something like that...I think that everyone on mylot should try and get along with everyone else!

You are right about that of people ruining it for other people by cheating but you must have a lot of prove in order to accuse people that you don't even know as cheaters. Everyone discuses situations in different ways and it can seem as though they are fighting or what ever but if they are just writing one word submissions then I would classify that as cheating but if they are actually taking the time to write back and forth to each other I don't think that that should be considered as cheating though. My lot does take a while to respond to people when they write to them but that is expected because there must be at least a million members on this site and if everyone sent in a complaint in the same day my lot wouldn't have the time to respond and fix all of the problems right away. They are doing the best that they can especially for a company that has so many users.

Maybe there was a use of foul words thats why the discussion was deleted. Discussions that are obscene and uses bad words I guess should be deleted. My eldest kid who is 15 is a member of this site too. If it's a bad discussion it should be deleted. There are also discussions which are senseless so why bother with it. I think mylot knows which ones to delete and can fairly act on it.

I'm the same way, Cyn, in fact I've only ever reported one discussion the entire time I've been here and it was just a short time ago. I also had a discussion deleted yesterday in which I guess I was also sort of venting. I got knocked from an 82/100 down to at last look 72/100 and my rating in the Politics interest went from 63 to 120. Why? Because I had the audacity to respond to a poster with a comment on something she had said. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what a discussion is? Gosh, I sure don't want to get this one deleted so I'd better stop now except to say there are several discussions remaining here telling about my merciless attack on her First Amendment Rights. I'm pretty PI$$ED myself right now. I just wish people would #1 READ THE GUIDELINES and #2 GROW UP!!

yeah, like I said, I do not report anything unless it is flagrant cheating, ie copying and pasting another topic or response. but I thrive on people disagreeing with me. I could learn something and I can teach them something. even morally disgusting posts, I will not report. I once had a man suggest in a gay thread that the sooner all gays die of aids the better we will all be. Sorry, he didn't just suggest it, he said it. I didn't report it. But there is a method to my madness. I want people to see the jerks for who they are and who am I do cut in to that. LOL. When I posted a discussion about that reply, it was deleted. Oh well. Sigh.
You are right. they need to grow up.
