Do You Reward Yourself?

Malaysia

Sometimes we work very hard to achieve something. After achieving it, we often move to the next event. I think we should always reward ourself each time we achieve or complete a certain activity or event. A reward could be something like a dinner or a short vacation. Perhaps it could be a certain "big man" toy that you have always coveted. What do you think of this discussion. Are you one who feel that reward is necessary or not?

shopping^_^ - sure thing for my reward!
thats so great^_^ i am certainly, always rewarding myself.. because of my rewarding attitude, i can take away my depression, stress and painful sorrow etc all the negative feelings.. giving myself what i want will really make my day. i'll glad than ever.. its because i know myself, i know what i want and need.. only me can say what i give for a reward.. like vacation going alone in beaches or other refreshing destinations, going to the spa have a massage, going to salon have manicure and pedicure, shopping beauty products like body washes, lotions, body butter, lip gloss etc.., bags or whatever i want^_^ and im glad i do that.. its self satisfying, and an outlet.. my way of treating myself^_^ take care^_^

I never used to feel that rewarding myself was necessary, and would move from one big event to the next, barely taking time to reflect on the achievement or on the process involved in reaching the goal. However, that brought me undone in a big way, not once (a slow learner) but twice! I have learned the hard way that these "rewards" are necessary to maintain a healthy perspective on things. Taking time to smell the roses, to bask in the achievement itself, to know intrinsically that you have done a great thing, and to reflect on the things that your achievement has taught you are all undervalued in today's hectic life.

If we appreciate our own efforts and reward ourselves, we actually sets a good example for others. There are many who have never been rewarded or appreciated working for others. Rewarding ourselves doesn't mean that we lose out to the world but we tell the world that we value ourselves.

Wise words. Valuing ourselves is one of the hardest lessons to learn. If we are to understand other people, we must be grounded in ourselves.

I don't expect anything in return for my hard work just that I get paid for it here at work I guess. In regards to perks I do buy things for myself but I don't think it's necessary to award ones self. If the people around you sees your work and they want to give you something that would be great. I did buy myself a second hand car but my reason for that is just too see something come out of my earnings.:)

Yes, others may see our works and reward us. It will not be always the case. Therefore, it is always great to create our own rewards. No matter what, we will never be disappointed by others due to our expectations.

Really, I am guilty of this, I work so hard to get something done and immediately it is achieved I just go to my list to find out what is the next on line for me to do, and I just do this over and over again. I think it will be nice if we can just do this for ourselves.

I am doing it to myself after so many years of working. It is fun and relaxing after doing it. Not that we have to splash money on a reward but the thought and little action will make us a stronger person after each time. In this way, we will tend to face the next challenge with confidence and strength.

Too many times, before payday comes, I think about rewarding myself for another 2 weeks of hard work. I plan on buying things for myself, not really the expensive ones but just to feel rewarded. And then when I get my salary, I start thinking about expenses that need to be prioritized, or I get to the store and just could not get myself to spend something extra for myself. More often than not, I postpone my reward for other things. But I think it's important for us to reward ourselves every now and then. Better said than done, lol!

Go get yourself rewarded each time you need it. Because the results will be most beneficial to you. I never did understood people in the past, taking vacations each year. I thought they were spendtrift. It turned out that they know what they are doing.

Well, I always do that. And I don't think of it as a waste of money, sometimes I think of it as a souvenir, an incentive for me to work hard. After a long work, I treat myself to a restaurant with a friend or one in my family. Sometimes, I buy something for myself as a reward and then sort of a souvenir. I remember I first have a work in the government - a summer job, and after receiving payment I bought pants for myself and treat my parents outside. The second time around, I bought myself a towel and T-shirts. In short for me, it is necessary.

Great, keep doing it and watch how happier life can be. I am doing it and I see the results. Especially, when we do it with our family members.

I reward myself almost every weekend (or at least I try to). Most weekends my parents come and take my son to their place so I have the weekend to myself. That's when I like to reward myself. Throughout the week I try to save a small sum from my daily expenses and on friday evening before returning home from office, i do my shopping. since i am an out & out foodie, yummy sinful treats top my list. it can be an expensive bar of chocolate, a big slice of pastry, some cookies, chips, flavoured yoghurt, sausages (just for myself) oh anything that catches my fancy and i have been putting off throughout the week coz i dont want my son to gorge on them like me. food apart, i keep the weekend cooking to a minimum. my hubby doesnt mind coz if the son's not there, we two adults can have almost anything. so i pamper myself in the free time that i have. i catch up on my reading, take naps, just laze on the balcony ...oh it can be anything. its just my way of rewarding myself for the hard work i put in throughout the week and preparing myself for another hectic week ahead.

Yes, I do reward myself for achieving something. I usually buy myself a new thing. It is either a cloth, jewelry, shoes or anything that I want. In that way, I compensate my hardwork for achieving.

I feel it is neccasry to keep going in life. The day to day functions such as work, house cleaning, taking care of children can really drain a person. Even if I cant afford it it may just be something small like a new shirt or a Frappacinno from Starbucks.

When I feel that I worked too much and I feel like I have not been taking care of myself like I should, I reward myself by buying something for myself. It does not have to be expensive. Another way of rewarding myself is to eat out at my favorite restaurant. Like you, I also take leaves at work to be able to breath in a stress-free environment. I feel that reward is necessary to keep us going and to avoid burn outs. We should not be too hard on ourselves. We should also think of making ourselves happy.

I have really been trying to save my money lately but I Think that if i make as much money as I think that I am going to make this month...that i will probably reward myself..I really do think that if you work hard for awhile and really accomplished alot on that month(or however it takes you to accomplish whatever it is you want to accomplish...)you should reward yourself...now Im not saying go out and spend a whole paycheck or something like that but justreward yourself where it will motivate you more!

This is a great discussion. Sadly I am the goal oriented person who pushes herself to do things. THEN its the next thing. The worst part is that I am so big on rewarding my children for things they do well and then I forget myself. Looks like I am going to have to work on this.

i think it's very important to reward yourself. I make sure i reward myself as often as possible. even if it is taking a few extra minutes in the bathroom, or walking home instead of taking the bus. reward yourself by doing or buying something that is just for you. I treat myself well so i feel good, so in turn i am always willing to do the best job i can always

I do it all the time. I reward myself for everything that I do right. More importantly, I do not beat up on myself when I make a mistake. I take note of the mistake and try not to do it again. The thing is I know that doing the right thing is reward in itself.

I think what you said is a good way to refresh yourself. If we keep achieving something all the time,we will feel tired. So dont forget to reward yourself, the purpose of life is to enjoy life.

Although 3 months old, I still find this discussion very interesting. Yup, I do reward myselg. Being a food lover, more often in terms of food, haha. Places like D.O.M.E or Nandos once in a while. Once in a long while, I'll buy something real expensive that I've longed for that I've wanted but have put aside for a perod of time ;) It just gives you the extra push to go on & do better in life :)
