Starbucks is going down in the US!

There isn't a Starbucks anywhere near the city I live in and they can only be found in the more "elite" parts of Boston. I've only been in one once or twice since they've been around and never did like their coffee. It was always too strong for me no matter how much milk or cream I put in it. As for the "food" that was available in Starbucks all I remember was muffins, croissants and items of that nature. My favorite of course is good ol' Dunkin Donuts. The coffee is always perfect, the donuts fresh and they have everything from soup to sandwiches (even if the eggs aren't real...lol). Now they even have small pizza's for one. There was a poll taken recently about which chain brews the best coffee and it came out:
Dunkin Donuts: 27,510
Starbucks: 20,420
McDonalds: 13,340 (who voted for them...yuck!).
You can check out the whole story at AOL finance with this link.......

Are you a fan of Starbucks? What is it about Dunkin Donuts that you don't or do like? How would you feel if your favorite Starbucks was to close?

Krispie Kreme tried to make it big around here but it just never happened. I think there are too many Dunkin Donuts and they have too many regular customers. Not to mention Krispie Kreme makes horrible coffee.

I don't like coffee so I have never been to Starbucks. There is a Starbucks in the Targer store that is about 30 miles away from me. Why it is in Target I have not figured out yet.

LOL I actually can't stand Starbucks OR Dunkin Donuts!! Being a Canadian gal I'm a full blown Tim Hortons fanatic and there has never been any place that can compare..AND it has to be CANADIAN Timmies..We have a Timmies near here now (in NY) and its NOT the same coffee at all..which was a HUGE let down for me actually...

My sons fiance comes from Maine and Tim Hortons is big there. Whenever they visit her family my son has to get coffee there and has even brought back some beans for me! I wouldn't mind if there were some around here.

Starbucks is over rated and over priced. I think their coffee is awful, just give me a large iced French Vanilla coffee and I can almost forget how hot it is outside here.

Not at all surprised. THe price alone was bound to drive business elsewhere. It was a "yuppie" thing that had its hayday and has now got competition - not only in the coffee itself but with the wages and economy not being able to afford it anymore!

Here in the Philippines, Starbucks and Dunkin D have different markets. And I dont know if DD diversifies their coffee products like what Starbucks is doing.
The cost is a major differentiator as well. DD offers coffee for about 30 pesos and Starbucks for at least 100.
There are more starbucks coffee shops near the office too.

I like Starbucks coffee, but...it is too expensive...
My favorite coffee cost now about $4.25 plus tax....
It is way to high...
I can make 10 or more coffees at home for same price....
Plus, no refills like in many restaurants....

Remember starbucks is for coffee, not food. And Dunkin Donuts, as inferred by the name, has more food.
But everyone I've talked to about it says that those three you mentioned all have good coffee.

Wow.That is interesting. I never drink coffee so I don't go to either Starbucks or Duncan Donuts.I guess people either don't like the taste of coffee or worst they don't have that extra 5.00 for a cup of coffee so they are going where the coffee is cheaper.

I like Starbucks coffee and would not be dissapointed if the Starbucks is closed down by our home because I can just about find them everywhere we go, now they are in Safeway and some Giant Food Stores too.
I don't have access to a Dunkin Donuts store thats why I have not tried their coffee so I can't really say whether it's any better.
I am trying to cut down on spending $$ on Starbucks coffee and making my own at home so I only treat myself to one a week or one every two weeks. It's a treat for me.

We used to have Starbucks up here in Canada but I think they have been gone for quite some time already. I think they left when Tim Hortons came. I think they are gone. I haven't seen one for many years now. We don't have Dunkin Donuts either. I love Tim Hortons for their French Vanilla coffee. My hubby just loves their plain coffee. A double double. I also love their donuts and bran muffins but I don't go there as often I used to because of the calories I consume when I go there. With one extra large french vanila coffee and one donut that is enough calories for one whole day. I want to lose some wieght so I try to stay away from them.

in terms of drip coffee there's absolutely nothing special about starbucks, while dunkin donuts consistently brews a great cup of coffee. unfortunately neither of them seem to offer any fair trade coffee and starbucks charges 50 cents extra for soy milk while dunkin donuts doesn't have it at all. that's why local independent coffee shops are great because they are often more conscious about these sorts of things (and if you're not a soy milk drinker, you might consider growth hormone free milk to be an important issue - something else you can't find and starbucks or DD).
i must admit though, starbucks is still usually the most convenient option when i want an espresso drink on the go. otherwise i'll just make it at home.

I'm actually a huge starbucks fan. I love their frapps and mochas. I don't eat from their deli that much, but when I have, it's been really good. I'm not a huge donut fan, but whenever I do get a craving, there's a privately owned bakery nearby. this woman gets up at 3am every morning and bakes. Her donuts are fresh every day. they're soooo good, and they're not expensive at all. I believe she started out as a single mom, too. Dunkin was my favorite before that, though. But, Dunkin Donuts can survive w/o my money. This woman survives on local sales. I'd rather support her while I get fat. lol I make my own, too. Homemade wins over any restaraunt....unless you can't cook. lol

WELL YOU really have not missed much..I am not that fond of Starbucks myself...Beside their coffee being so strong it could stand up,they are so expensive, and its not worth what they are asking..I have been there a few times and i wasn't that impressed..I think it is just a status symbol...

I don't care for Starbucks coffee...way too strong and way too expensive!. I like Dunkin's french vanilla. It is very tasty and not too pricey..
I live in a northwest suburb of Chicago and Starbucks has placed 3 new stores within 3 miles of each other. Perhaps their own stores are their worst competition.
PEACE

I suspect that much of Starbuck's loss of trade has to do with the "recession" that the country is now in, ctry. The majority of people are struggling to make ends meetand trying to pay their mortgages, so luxury items like $5-a-cup coffee is just no longer high on their list of priorities. I can drink coffee from most anywhere, and I have not had a really bad cup of coffee in years.

You are not alone in your opinion of Starbucks coffee. I just doubt that they are going down in the US. While other people like other coffees, Starbucks is much more then a daily brew and they have a huge devout following.
I am not a fan of their coffee, at least not most of it. But I worked there for a little over a year. They have a good business model, and while I haven't worked there in two years, they are growing in location as well as selling rights to Target, Walmart, and a few other stores. They make a lot of money off of those locations even though they aren't run by Starbucks (I worked at one in Target).

The best brewed coffee there is is the kind I make at home myself. It cost less and taste a lot better. I have never carried for Starbucks coffee. I do like the strawberry smoothies and some of the sandwiches they make.
