Why do so many women bleach their hair and dye it blond?

I am a natural blond. In my picture you can see where I went a dark brown that ended up fading 4 days later to red. That pic is 4 days later. I hate my blond hair when I live with my parents because it stays that reddish color from the well water. When I was little I was a "toe head" and hoped I would get a nice brown color like my dads. I didn't, it's now dirty dishwater blond-red LOL. I HATE WELL WATER! So, usually I just get lighter blond highlights to make it look decent. That and malibu treatments every 2 weeks to keep the rust out. I don't think it's any better being a blond than red, black, brown, or pink.( I loved my hair when it was pink). And the side affects are really bad if you look them up. hair falling out, "sneezex"-the tiny broken off hairs that stick up on TOP of your head), discoloration, greens and brassies, and over all yuckyness of the job being done.

Hey I did that once, but how stupid I looked, a black girl with long platnum blond hair. As it started to grow back in to its natural color the blond high lights did look really good and all my friends started getting them. My husband is beautiful with his blond hair and blue eyes I thought he would like to have a blond, you know something different, but he really hated it.

Ok, let me try to guess on this one.
My assumption is based on a response I got in one of my discussion posts.
Well, according to the response, men prefer blonde women ..no let me re-phrase that....it was something like blonde is what is generally considered attractive (in the US)....might not be really true when people go beyond looks...but the first impression on looks is that blonde is what men look for.
So, probably that's why the fixation with blonde.

Some women (and also men) bleach or dye their hair to hide the greying of their hair. Others dye their hair just for the sake of fashion, coz that's the 'in' thing. I dont know why some people prefer blond hair. Maybe it makes one look younger. I know some hair dye products damage the hair, so we have to be choosy and select the brand that will cause less damage.

Many baby girls and little girls have blond hair but it darkens to brown when they are older. This has happened to my nephews and older niece but my younger niece is still blond. I think lots of girls don't like their hair darkening and so they dye it the shade of blond that they like when they are grown up. With blue or green eyes blond hair can look natural if there are no dark routes showing, the hair is in good condition and it is in a realistic shade. Dying damages hair and makes it less shinny. I have green eyes and dark brown hair. I have always fancied having ginger hair. I haven't got my hair dyed now but in the past I have tried coloring my hair with henna to make it more gingery. I have tried ginger high or low lights. I not sure if I should say high or low lights. I would look awful with dyed blond hair as it would look very unnatural. I will never dye my hair blond.

I've bleached my hair out but not to dye it blonde..I bleach it out so I can Manic Panic it various colours of the rainbow such as electric blue, hot pink, etc etc...
As for why some men and women do the bleach to blonde thing...I have no idea really.

hello^_^
i may be one of those putting colors in my hair^_^
i only use trusted products, for hair protect.. specially colored hair from my shampoo to wax and conditioner^_^
i only put color same with my brown hair.. i dont want change it into something not me.
i need to put color because i had the most white hair ever since i was just 8 years old..
its hereditary, most of the family members got the gray hair issue^_^
im even tease as "grandma" at my young age long ago^_^
so i put hair dye to cover the odd and care for it a lot^_^
take care!

Well I would expect that the reason that so many women choose to dye thier hair blonde would be a combination of the perception that men prefere blonde hair and also that lighter hair is supposed to make you appear more youthful.
