I know it can be a very effective way to lose weight quickly. But can it work for long term weight control? Is it healthy? Is it safe to do for long term?
Most people I know who have done this either quit because it was too hard to maintain- you have to give up a Lot of foods, or gained the weight back after adding carbs back in to their diets.

I have heard of people doing a low carb or no carb diet and I have also heard that it is not healthy for you and that its kind of like crash dieting...I have heard that if yo udo crash diet that you will lose the weight but that it will all come back..I think the reason that it is bad for you is that you are losing all of that weight at once and if you do that you also have to worry about the extra skin thats going to be there(if you were overweight in the first place)so I would not suggest crash diets!!!!

in my opinion it's not healthy or safe to do long term. better to just try and keep an appropriate ratio of carbs, protein, and fat in your diet. and remember fiber is a carb and getting lots of fiber in your diet is so good for you! besides which, any diet that says you can't eat any fruit doesn't sound very good to me.

I am on a low carb diet because I am diabetic. My nutritionist set me on a certain level of carbs each day. I am allowed to have 45g for each meal and 15g for an evening snack. I have lost 22 pounds so far. It goes slow but it is really a good plan. There is also a very good book that is for Diabetics but will also work for anyone. It is "The Diabetes Carbohydrate and Calorie Counter." It shows you a proper diet and includes the calories, carbs, fats, anything you need for a proper diet. I highly recommend it.

I believe that is only good for a short term and not for the long term. It may cause imbalance in the body system which might cause problems later on. The body needs nutrients, food, vitamins, in a balance way. Too much or to less would always create a bad effect.

you can try low carb diets to lose your weight and i can't approve no carb diets, because any material in your body is essential.that will break your balance of body when losing any nutrition material.besides, only maintain this way for a long term, you can see the effect finally.

I think it is only for a short period of time. And there is the danger of gaining once you add the carbs back. Mind you, it could be that there has to be a limit on how many carbs to add back and if you had a serving of potatoes, four slices of bread, and five chips, maybe you have to add one thing at a time, and make sure it fills you up. I guess you cannot put back the same amount. I think the secret is to have an appetite suppressant as well or have a food that acts like one.

I was on a low carb diet for a while and it worked great. It felt very good to. I did a low fat low carb high protein and high fiber diet. It was good and healthy but quite costly so due to the budget I had to stop. It is cheaper to live on carbs.

Hello! Effective... yes! Healthy... NO! I lost a lot of weight, but found that for long term control, its best to follow a plan that includes sensible eating and lose only 1 to 2 lbs per week. (I know it sucks!). I did the Atkins thingy and lost, but as soon as I added some carbs, it all came back with a few extra pounds to boot! I also got sick of eating meat. This time, I've followed a sensible plan and have lost 35 lbs. Now I'm kinda mixing it up and trying new lo-cal recipes which is kinda fun! Good luck to you on your quest!
