I don't watch birds as a hobby, but I do enjoy watching them. When I was visiting Colo. I saw a bunch of ducks and geese on a partially frozen pond. They seemed to be enjoying sliding on the ice. They would swim over, get out of the water, walk/slide on the ice, then get back into the water and start all over again. I had fun watching them and taking some pictures.

I've heard that about geese! Luckily, with my zoom lens I didn't have to get to close to these!

The best part of pet ownership is watching them interact with themselves, each other and you!
I have parrots, cockateils, chickens, rats, a dog, a cat and a goat, and believe it or not, they all get along together! It is hilarious watching the bird ride around on the dogs back (it needs no encouragement!) and the goat rearing up and pretending she's going to headbutt the cat, even though the cat is content to smooch around the goats legs and underbelly! lol
It really opens your eyes to the intelligence levels that animals have. And to think that one day, not so long ago, the general consensus was that animals didn't have feelings!

Too bad humans can't follow their example, huh? Thanks for the reply.

Oh I love that picture there susieq...you just happen to photograph one of my favorite birds...ever see the movie Fly Away Home? It's based on a true story of how this little girl found geese eggs, but no moma bird..so she took them and raised them..but then since the "nasty" authorities were going to take them away from her, she and her father "taught" them how to fly to a sanctuary where they wouldn't be bothered...one of those tearjerkers for me even though it ended happily
I actually studied a home study course via Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology for bird biology and bird photography back in the 1980s.
Just today when I was out I was noticing the huge flock of seagulls flying around.....we used to have loads years ago, but then they disappeared for some reason, and now it seems they are back again..I always had a "thing" about seagulls thanks to that story Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Thought I'd share one of my own geese photos with you.

Not at all. I couldn't stand to sit around and watch birds. I like whale watching, and looking out at the ocean, though. :]

I would have to agree they are cuter and have a lot more antics. I like to have squirrel feeders as well as bird feeders. Thanks for the reply.

I don't go out of my way to watch them as going out specifically for doing that. However I do enjoy watching them as I am looking out the window. I have some very pretty birds that way. Also if I am driving down the highway I like to watch them. In January the Eagle migrates back up to lock and damn area and they stay about a month. Now when those birds come into the area I do go up and watch them. Those are such magnificent birds. Those birds I could watch for hours and hours.
