All the time. But I think that some psychologist would say that scanning is pretty normal. What irritates me is when I have scanned over a piece and then discover that the bit I missed is integral to the plot and I haver to go back and find it again!

If I find myself scanning too much I usually take it as a sign the book just isn't written well enough, so I move on to another one.

That happens to me if I am either in a big hurry or if I have too many thoughts on my mind. It is annoying, and I do find it causes me to not get as much out of the book as I might have... so I try not to let it happen though it can be a struggle at times!

Me,too.hehe.And I think that's common for us readers.Because not all the opinions in the book are useful or creative to us.Only what we share the same feeling with deserves our careful reading and thinking.

I have done the same thing...I have started a book and by the second page I will catch myself just scanning the paragraphs...I never really thought much about it until now lol I dont really know why people do that but I think that alot of people do that becaues I have known people that can read an entire book in one day(and this is a long book like our or five hundred pages)I was like what you have done read that book whats going on I thought i was a fast reader lol Thank God I am not the only one that does this lol

Oh yeah, I do that too. Sometimes you just "know" what's going to happen or you know a good part is coming up, so I'll scan through a paragraph or two. I do it a lot when they are describing something in detail, like a room or a car or something else. I really don't care what the furniture looks like if it has nothing to do with the plot! lol!

I don't think you need to regret about it. All do that and I think it's healthy. Because there are materials in every book that we need not really go through. And if you scan you get to know which to read and which to skip. I also do that, but I am sure others do that too. I think I have heard advice that it's good to do that with some chapters.

I do that on occasion and if I get confused I skip back and take a serious look at it. Usually only happens when there's more than one storyline going on and I'm anxious to get back to a particular one. I recall one book where I skipped everything but then re read it reading the other one, makes it kind of interesting when you have no idea what the bad guys are up to. ;D

I do sometimes, especially when the author is more of describing something that to me is not really relevant to the story. I am more interested in how the story unfolds than in its details.

I do this all the time. I think mostly its when the writer veers off the story and I'm trying to find out whats going to happen next. I do have to go back a lot though when I get further in the book and realize I missed a vital part somewhere LOL.
I use this as a way to judge if a writer is really good. If I'm not scanning ahead a lot, then they're writing good enough to hold my attention. Then I know next time I see a book by this author that I'll probably like it.
