Do you read other's responses before responding to a discussion?

Admittedly I don't always read ALL the responses given to a discussion before I reply, especially if there already several of them. Of course this means that I may reiterate a point made by a response already. Do you find this annoying and redundant? Or do you think it merely helps illustrate how many people think the same way? -Tink

Some topics of discussion that are presented here just demand immediate response without reading what anyone else had said. Others call for reading the responses that have already been left, if only to enjoy the silliness or the fun that's there. Now, this one, well, I didn't read a thing before I responded, so if I am reiterating or being redundant, sorry. But this was just one of those. :)

I try to read the responses given on a discussion before I reply - I hate repeating others, I find it redundant. But if it's a discussion like - what kind of chocolate do you like - of course there will be repeat answers. I guess it could also be nice to see how many people could also think the same way.

I try to read everuone's responses before I respond, or at least scan but mostly I am responding to the opening discussion. If there are really long responses, I often go back and read the whole thing and look at links and pictures after I have responded. Thanks for asking!

same with you, moreover if the respond is too long and not arranged attractive it will make me bored and annoying. So maybe 50%:50%.

I must also admit that I don't always read all responses given to a discussion. I don't think this annoying to have similar responses, but at least I know that there are some people that think similar / same way. this somehow gives me illustration about how mostly people would react / think about the case mentioned within the discussion.

yes i see others responses before giving my responce because i wanted to know that the respone i hav given is already given by others or not and also to get some ideas what other people think.

although that would be a great idea to do, i preferably write straight for my respose because i am lazy and i just have to voice out my opinion without being affected by what i read from other responses. i think the one person who should read the responses is the one who wrote the discussion in the first place so that he/she could respond to the different responses that he/she gets from his/her discussions.

About the only time I do not read the responses before I respond is when I am answering through my email. Then I go through the whole discussion and I will say that I agree with what ever points are already made. Most of us don't care if the opinions are similar or the same, its fun to get that persons view the way its seen to them.

Most of the time, I'll read all replies before writing mine, so I don't duplicate an answer. Although, if they are asking my opinion, it's alright if I duplicate. I will usually still read others, though, in the event that I can use someone else's to expand on mine or I can expand on theirs.

Sometimes I do, sometimes not. If I can't get at first hand what the discussion is all about, I sometimes read some responses made. But when I have already read the post and know what to respond, I immediately post a response. Also I go over and read what the other responses are, after I post my own response to see if I have responded with the same view as the other myLotters.

Sometimes I do but I'd rather not. I like to be original and if I read another's response it influences my response. Sometimes I will repeat (without reading their response) what others have already written, but this is good because we both agree in this case. SO to sum it up I think its best that we write what we think without reading another persons response first!

I usually read the other Responses before I Respond to a Post. I do not want to repeat too much of what the other Responders have written. Sometimes I write things under the other Responders threads especially if they are friends. This makes the Post a lot more fun and can make the Post a mile long.lol Sometimes it is good that the Responses are similar if you are trying to get a consensus of opinion. But most of the time you want origional answers to make the Post more interesting. Shalom~Adoniah

I am sadly guilty of NOT reading the responses. I may sometimes catch part of the way the conversation is going; I may randomly read a few answers. If it's a conversation I'm highly interested in, I read most of the replies. Needless to say, I didn't really read all of the responses in this discussion either. .

Sometimes I don't because I don't have much to go over all the responses, unless it is the disccussion I started. My lot is user-frienly since it sends you emails (I've set it that way and I find them efficient) saying that somebody responded. I read those first and if my time is not yet up, I answer other discussions. I only read and port here when I am not doing anything home or if my little one is sleeping.

No never. I always want my response to be free from any influences so I never read others’ responses before framing my own response. It is after posting my response and scrolling down, do I read what other’s have written before me. It does get annoying when I see people have written almost the same as I have but it cant be helped really. Just the other day I was writing something about the grass being greener on the other side when after posting, I was scrolling down and I noticed that at least 3 people had used the same language of the grass being greener. Well I know I was not ‘cheating’…even then it does feel bad if your response has no originality.

I had never have a pattern on what I did before giving response to certain topic. It always vary from time to time affected by lots of factors, but most of the time I do read before replying. In the case of discussion which has many responses, I just usually read the first page, but then again there are still times that I read all the replies even though it takes time. Those are to discussions which I find really interesting and fun reading. In times I am lazy, and my server works slowly and also those times I find topic very interesting and I got excited to share my thought and opinion, well, I just managed to hit reply button from then on without reading responses from other members. But then I always managed to read replies before or after my response.
