I'm making a mix Cd for my boyfriend for Valentines Day. There are so many songs out there, and so many types of relationships. I'm curious, if you were going to make a Valentine's mix Cd for your significant other, what songs would you include? Would they be chosen because of the lyrics? Because they like those bands?

So far...
"Remember" by BT because right now we are 2300 miles apart.
I know how you feel.
I'm feeling it to.
I hold my heart, I dream of you.
I see your face, I feel it, too.
Searching skies.
I need you.
I miss you.
Take this and hold
my love for you.
In separate times we think as two.
In paradise I'll drown in you.
Still searching skies.
I need you.
I want you.
I know how you feel.
I'm feeling it to.
I hold my heart, I dream of you.
I see your face, I feel it, too.
Searching skies.
I need you.
I miss you.
Take this and hold
my love for you.
In separate times we think as two.
In paradise I'll drown in you.
Still searching skies.
I need you.
I want you.
I love you, love you, I love only you...love you.
Remember me near.
There may be times when it's not right
for me to be there.
But remember me near.
Remember me near.
There may be times when it's not right
for me to be there.
But remember me near.
Searching for strength.
Can I face this day.
Blinded by your love we stay.
You're always there,
you're in my head
still chasing skies.
I need you.
Oh, I miss you.
Just love you, only you, only you...
I love you, I love you, I love only you...love you.
Remember me near.
There may be times when it's not right
for me to be there.
But remember me near.
Remember me near.
There may be times when it's not right
for me to be there.
But remember me near.
(repeat out)

Thanks for posting this discussion. I thought of doing that for my husband one year and never did it. I started a list somewhere of songs to include. I would include, Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes", and Blood Sweat and Tears "You've Made Me So Very Happy", U2 "One". Would be a few I would include. They are choosen because of the bands and lyrics. They are songs that have special meaning to us.

I would use mostly songs he's never heard, but that I know he'd love. It would take a lot of time and research, but I love discovering new bands and eclectic music, and introducing him to great new bands/songs. Then I would add in a few of "our" songs that have special meaning to us. We're really not big on sappy love songs, the closest thing would be from bands like snow patrol, rise against, or something corporate.

I would add our song, and a lot of songs we love to listen to together. I would make sure to throw in some of his absolute favorites, and some of my absolute favorites, just to blend us together a little bit more. I'd even throw in a love song or two, just to really mix things up. And I'd make darn sure not to let any girlie-sounding songs onto it. I wouldn't want to have him skipping over any of the songs because he hated them. Actually, thanks. I think I will make a mixed CD for my boyfriend now.

You're welcom. I've got a girly song on mine, but this CD this time around is all about the words and I'm making a little booklet with all the words and why I chose the song.

This is such a great idea, and it's been passed down from the age of the mixtape.
Unfortunately, I have no ideas. Most of the music that I like that I think he'd like... It turns out he has, or it turns out that if I think about it carefully, it's something that he actually introduced me to.
We're both really eclectic, so I'm sure I could find something. :P
I'm pretty sure I'd pick songs based on lyrics, though. Genre & lyrics would be the deciding factors, I think.

I think even if he already has the song, its more the fact that it's a mix of songs that make you think of him that counts. I have the same song on multiple CDs and it's not a big deal for me.

I would put mostly love songs with a few that are just his favorite's. I would also put a song from every genre, unless he hated that kind of music, like how the guy I like HATES country.

Mine doesn't hate country, but it's not his thing. I am including one though because the lyrics and emotion behind the song are just amazing...
I'll Be - by Reba McEntire
"When darkness falls upon your heart and soul.
I'll be the light that shines for you.
When you forget how beautiful you are
I'll be there to remind you.
When you can't find your way,
I'll find my way to you.
When troubles come around,
I will come to you.
I'll be your shoulder when you need someone to lean on.
Be your shelter.
When you need someone to see you through.
I'll be there to carry you.
I'll be there.
I'll be the rock that will be strong for you.
The one that will hold on to you.
When you feel that rain falling down.
When there's nobody else around.
I'll be.
And when you're there with no one there to hold.
I'll be the arms that reach for you.
And when you feel your faith is running low.
I'll be there to believe in you.
When all you find are lies.
I'll be the truth you need.
When you need someone to run to .
You can run to me
I'll be your shoulder when you need someone to lean on.
Be your shelter.
When you need someone to see you through.
I'll be there to carry you.
I'll be there.
I'll be the rock that will be strong for you.
The one that will hold on to you.
When you feel that rain falling down.
When there's nobody else around.
I'll be.
I'll be the sun.
When your heart's filled with rain.
I'll be the one.
To chase the rain away.
I'll be.
I'll be."

I always think a mixture is best, a mixture of the artists, bands they like plus songs with great words to them which really express how you feel about your significant other. That way it's variety and they get a bit of everything and that shows just how thoughtful you really are! I have only done that once for my partner and I actually put on songs which we listened to together and songs which the words truly meant how much my partner meant to me.

I'd definitely have to go with lyrics. The songs I listen to have a lot of meaning in the words and I could listen to them over and over.
This is one of the first things I remember him commenting on when we first met, the lyrics to the music that I listen to.

I would havae to say that I would include the songs that he likes rather than on the words. He's not a wordy person for songs, if he likes a song its more for the music than words. :-)
