I guess everyone can tell that this is the month for hair questions, by me anyway. I have wondered about this for a long time and since I am now considering growing my hair out & starting over since I have had such a bad haircut experience. I have always been told that if you want to grow your hair out fast, you should always cut or trim your hair just before the full moon. Is this in fact, true? I had a friend who swore by this. But I would like to hear from others who have actually proven this to be true or not to be true.

You would think that by cutting the hair that it would take longer to grow, and that they would tell you to not cut it. I don't know. My hair is such a mess to me. After the really bad haircut, now I want it to grow out, I actually want to try to wear it long, well shoulder length anyway, but I am so impatient to wait for it to grow. Maybe I should try vitamins or something. Thanks for sharing with me Pam.

I have always heard to cut your hair "by the moon", but have not given it any credence. What I have seen is that taking lots of vitamins and eating good quality protein makes hair and nails grow. Others will tell you that is not true, but it is what I have observed.

There is a whole list of old wives tales regarding your hair which are false according to snopes and the moon influencing your har is one of them.
Complete list:

I dont know if this full moon & hair story are true or not? But what I do know, is that according to my Police Officer husband, you can be sure there is always a lot more crime on full moon nights.
So if the full moon to cause people to commit crime, then by all means, try cutting your hair just before the full moon.

I've never heard that one but maybe that's what I've been doing wrong - my hair has never grown fast...
As other said I'm sure it's just one of those old wives tales but sometimes there is more truth to those than many will admit.

that's a new one on me. my hair always grows best during pregnancy, so maybe a hormone supplement would work, heh. I would suggest nutrition as being a factor in long and healthy hair as well as the genes to grow hair long, not everyone can.
I've also heard to trim the hair every 6-8 weeks to ensure growth - but I think that trimming the splits does not make hair grow faster, but it does keep it looking nicer as well as stronger which in turn may help it get longer... but since the growth is from the roots and not the ends I do not see how it would encourage faster growth.

I've actually never heard of that!! What I was told was that if you wanted your hair to grow fast, just get it trimmed every 6 weeks. Well since I never seem to have the money, I went a year without cutting/trimming it...and it went from just past my shoulders to more than half way down my back.
Now something that I have been told is to take vitamins...especially pre-natal vitamins. Because of all the nutrients and vitamins, your hair grows REALLY fast.

Well, my hair used to be braided and be down to below my waist. I never paid attention to the moon or anything else when getting it cut or trimmed.
Don't worry about it.

I have never heard of any such thing in all my life and I thought I had heard it all. I think the best way to grow your hair fast is to not put any harsh chemicals on it. Don't over use the curling iron, flat iron, and blow dryer. Keep your ends cut on a regular basis to keep the split ends from going to the root. I do not believe that our hair growing has anything to do with the moon. Unless, you are a werewolf, LOL.

Although I rather object to this being called an Old Wive's Tale (wait until you are "old wife" and you will know what I mean) nevertheless I do agree with Garden Gerty and the others who will tell you it is good nutrition that makes your hair grow faster, that and keeping the ends from splitting. Well, the latter doesn't make it grow faster, but keeps it from breaking off short. The moon does have a powerful influence that the naysayers really cannot explain, though, especially when it is full.
Law enforcement people, teachers, and other people who have to do crowd control know this as do emergency room workers. So although I have no idea whether hair grows faster at some moon phases than others, I sure as heck wouldn't cut mine DURING a full moon. Just before certainly wouldn't do any harm if you felt like trying it. I might look that one up in the Farmer's Almanac, lol.

Oh good grief!! lol Sounds like another old wives tale. Sorry but I can't see what the moon, full or not, has to do with hair in any length. However, from experience, I can say that if you trim an inch every 8 to 12 weeks, it'll grow faster. Also I was told by my mother that she was taking some kind of herb to harden her nails and her hair grew really fast in which she didn't want it to because she likes it short and curly. So see an herbalist and see what the herb is and take that and trim it every 8 to 12 weeks, you should have long hair in no time.

no, it ain't true. i tried it several times. it's a pathetic way to make you believe that there's hope with the thinning hair when in fact there's none...
just read on the scientific facts.
