What is the best kind of external harddrive?

Hi everyone, I am wanting to buy an external hard drive for my desktop because I have downloaded many programs, ect. and I have a pretty full hard drive. My thought is that maybe if I empty some of this stuff to another spot it will help my computer speed. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks!

Well, I just ran over to walmart a month or so ago and bought a 150$ 300gb external hdd, and although I hate buying things from stores(Much rather online) I wanted it soon. So far I've had no problems and it works great.

Its either Wester Digital or Samsung(It doesn't actually say it on the hdd and I lost the box =/)
