Simple and Powerful Motivation words had been given to them; NO PAIN NO GAIN. That is why they are playing that game at "diehard" level and they have their well planned for laurel retirement.

well.. there are only 3 reasons why:
1. Financial - this applies to those who play for amateur and pro basketball leagues. this is, well, how they earn money.
2. Pride - this applies most specifically to group competitions, whether in school, work, or at home. they play for the pride of their team, regardless of the prize they may receive.
3. Love of the game - this applies to a real handful few people who plays the game for the simple cause of their love for it. call it an addiction.. call it a vice.. but to these guys, basketball is more than just a game. its a way of life. c',)

Like every other outdoor sport, there is always a danger of getting injured, but what keeps them on is their passion for the game and the money in it in the long run.

Well first, it's good money for the talent you have, and second it's a macho thing, lots of people have said that you know I can get hurt but I need to be a man and get out there and play my best every night.
It really sucks when my team alone is missing three key players....
