The fundable thing, and other ideas... for my son's doctor's trip.

So, thanks to my lovely friend aiden, I now have a site up on fundable for people to donate for my son's doctor's trip, to help us out with gas and hotel and stuff. I'm not sure anyone is going to be interested in doing this, but it looks like a neat idea, and I'm hoping some of my friends will help me out! :) Has anyone used this site before, or have any other ideas for raising funds quickly? If you haven't read my other discussion about my son's health and my money situation, right now we're trying to figure out how to pay for gas, hotels, and other necessities for my taking my son to a doctor's appointment in Wisconsin in a couple of weeks. Anyway, the fundable thing is here: https://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2008-02-06.0267549649 and any other suggestions would be welcomed! :)

have you tried any local businesses or places like the salvation army.. ? I know that Sheetz where I live let a family put a container for people to put change into it on one of their counter and I know a couple other places like mcdonald's has done that around here. I have never heard of the site your using so I'm wishing you luck and peace. Have a nice day.

I haven't had much luck talking to people around here yet. I'm still trying though.

Thats actually a good idea.. Especially if you know anyone who owns or works at a small store. I really hope that site is legitimate. I've never heard of it before and there don't seem to be contacts for people who have had sucess's on there. I'm really tight for money myself right now. I'm living off the good graces of my mom. Maybe if it gets close I'll pitch in a little bit. Dusty is so cute and I wish you all the best.

You touched my heart. You have my pledge, Lecanis. Every Monday I work for a morning in a second-hand bookshop. I love the job and would do it for free (but don't tell my boss, LOL!). I dedicate a morning's work to Dustin and I sure hope that the little guy's problems will be resolved by this trip. If I say 'God bless', I'm sure you know what I mean ;)

Nope. That didn't work either. Maybe the formatting engine that puts our messages up doesn't know what to do with 'https:\\....'

Thank you! I appreciate all of your help, and I'm sure my cute little sweetie pie would too if he were old enough to understand. :P Haha, I know what you mean about jobs you would do for free, especially involving books!

I don't know, I couldn't get it to come up, and apparently it didn't for you either! Weird. :(

I hope that you get what you need. Your friend is a very special person. I know personally all the things that go on, just getting what your child needs. Good luck to you. I have never heard of this site before, but it is pretty neat. Good luck to you.

Are you having any luck coming up with the money? Did you call the hospital and ask the social worker? Heard anything from the state?

Haven't heard anything yet. I tried the hospital but so far the only person I talked to wasn't very helpful, and the state hasn't said anything yet... have to send paperwork down to Lansing and then back before I hear on that part. I've got $50 pledged on the fundable thing so far, but I haven't had much luck asking people I know offline. I really wish I had a better support base offline now. I'm still trying to come up with ideas though.

I don't know about the site, but I just wonder if there was any way to raise the money through the local business? I have seen in some stores where a local child is in need of some medical procedure and people donate their change to the cause..I don't know other than asking your doctor how you could go about starting something like that..

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to check around locally for people that can help as well, but it's easier to ask online since I know more people here. :)

Well, like I said, if you can talk to your doctor and maybe he can help you, give you suggestions.. Maybe recruit family and friends to also help..:)

Is your son okay? Why do you have to travel to go to the docter? Wow that sounds like a really cool site. I hope its legitimate and works for you. I live in Canada and most of that stuff would be covered here. My parents have always had extended medical too. How long is this trip? Do you have any points cards you can cash in? I have lots of ideas on saving money but not so much on the getting things paid for. I usually always go to my parents when I'm in need. Best of luck and keep us updated.

My son is doing okay at the moment, but he's been having seizures for a while now, and the most recent few have included breathing problems and other issues that make the problem more severe. While we can see his regular pediatrician here, we have to go to another town to see a specialist, because we live in the middle of nowhere. Our local hospital won't do any of the tests that require anesthesia for him, and because of his age the MRI he needs will require anesthesia. So he's going to go get the test (and a few other tests) and see a pediatric neurologist. It's possible his problem will go away as he gets older, but we can't count on it because the seizures he's having are becoming increasingly dangerous. He's had to have CPR and oxygen because he stops breathing during them, and he's on medicine to prevent the seizures but still having them. Hence the worry, the travel, and everything. I don't really have anything I can cash in or sell at the moment, and I don't have family that can help me. If I did have other options, I wouldn't ask people like this, because I feel kind of bad doing so. It's only going to be a couple of days, so we don't need a lot of money, just a couple hundred for hotels and food... but we don't have it right now.

Thanks, Monkeyrose! Actually if you put enough in yourself to put it up to your goal, you can get the funds out. So I borrowed enough to bump it up there to get what was there. If you wanted to send something straight to my paypal (same username at gmail.com) you can if you like, but don't worry if you decide not to either.

Awe that sounds like a lot to deal with. I live in a big city so I don't have those difficulties with medical care. I wish you the best of luck. I'm going to see how your fund raising goes. If you don't reach your goal then you don't get your money right? I don't have much... but if you don't reach your goal I might be able to put it directly into your account. I'll do what I can.

I don't have a lot to offer. But this is a worthy cause. You should explain about your son's problems a little more, so people understand why he has to see the doctor in another state. I am not one who gives out money to very many causes, but I offer what I can and hope others do as well.

Thank you! I appreciate all your help, including letting me know about fundable in the first place. You're right, I should probably give a better explanation. I guess I figured mostly my friends would wind up looking, and most of you guys have heard about my son's problems before this. I'll work on it right now though.

I started another discussion explaining a little more. It might hold a little more impact as well since it isn't from you asking for money. I also stole your picture of Dustin. Probably should have asked...but it was a spur of the moment thing...hope you don't mind.

Wow Lecanis, so sorry to hear that you are under so much pressure at the moment. I have just come back onto mylot yesterday after being away for maybe 6 months, so I hadn't heard about your sons condition until now :( I really hope you manage to work things our but I have faith that you will be able to because you are a good person and you will conjure the things in your life that you need. Currently I am unemployed but if I have get some money coming in soon, I will send some of it your way to help alleviate the stress. Be strong and concentrate on white light and positivity. Maybe you have some old clothes or things you can sell on ebay or something like that? Anyway hugs to you and your family again through this time and I know you will manage to get through it all. Life is always a test. Tanika.

Thanks, Tanika! I've been talking about my son's illness on and off for a while now, but his scariest seizure was probably while you were gone. We still don't really have a diagnosis yet, but hopefully these tests will turn something up.

Sugar, I sure hope this works for you. You and your little family so need a break. I want you to know that My husband and I will look into this on your behalf this weekend. I want you to know I care very much for you. Wishing you well sounds lame and empty even to my own ears. But if thoughts were energy and could reach out to you, then sweetie you would know for certain you are loved and cared for outside of your circle.

Thanks! I'm still hoping it'll work for me, though I haven't had quite the luck I had hoped with it so far. Still trying though! :) I don't feel your words are lame and empty, Angel. You and I are friends, and I know you care for me as I for you. *hugs*
