They are right. There are a lot of resources on the web which you can use in studying. But it also takes a lot of patience since some samples or codes provided in the web is fully functional. Here's a link for a C language tutorial: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/turorial

Hold up!
"C" is ancient in computer years as a language...
It evolved into C+ then C++, then C#...
I'm not trying to B harsh here, just realistic...
(Think 7+ in dog years...)
UR last post said the given site gave U a C++ guide & U were disappointed - did I read U right?... Well... there's a reason...
It's what everyone else whom UL B interacting with is using...
It is the current standard by which U will write & the standard by which UR modules will B Used/Shared/Evaluated...etc...
Learning C now is like learning Latin from 30 B.C. in order 2 speak English today... Kind of a stretch don't U think? Justa Taught...Anyone?
All seriousness aside...
Put just "C" on a resume these days & "C" how far U get...
Chances R UR foot will B hurting plenty cuz it didn't get in the door...
UR pride/foot... U know I'm kidding... Don't U?

If you like to learn computer courses like the one you mention, I would suggest for you to visit free-ed.net. It is an online education equipped with references. No payment required, and you will not be asked to register in the site before you can get access to their courses. all you do is to look of the course you are looking for and then download or print the online textbook they have then follow the lessons there just like a student.
I think the only requirement there for you to learn is to have your own computer, to spend time with lessons, to make an effort to perform the sample lessons given there.
When I was looking for an online course about HTML, is it free-ed.net I used too. I would tell you the site is very nice, they have my highest recommendation.
Hope this suggestion of mine will help you.
