I have a (just turned) 5 yr. old daughter with low-level hearing loss in one ear. She was born with it. Problem -- She is having a very hard time grasping phonics. I am currently using Bob Jones homeschooling curriculum and it's just not doing the job. I have tried to develope my own methods -- not working. Does anyone know of a phonics program that I might try? Preferrably something fun and colorful. Thanks in advance.

Im not sure what a "low level" hearing loss is but if she has a hearing loss in the lower frequencies make sure that you are using good visual cues and make sure that you are teaching/speaking on her good side.

something that i have used is a system of visual phonics. It's a multisensory system that I could share with you that we have used at our clinic that works will all types of children. I'm not trying to sell you anything and it's not something you can purchase though I'm sure there's something similiar out there in the market. It's something we've pced together throughout the years and it assigns a hand sign with each sound. Using multple sensory channels it improves retention. I used it with my daughter who has some deveolpmental disabilites.
