I live in the country 5 miles from town the closest neighbor to us is 3/4 mile away.We have an 8 month old rotweiler who is always running off. We've decided to put him in a pin.I hate it for him cause he's locked up.He's the sweetest dog.Our 3 yr old named him Dr. Phil she just loves him.We keep him inside when it's too cold outside but together they're too much to have inside for long.Any ideas on how to keep him in the yard rather than stuck in a pin all day??

The best thing for Dr Phil is for you to get him a she mate.
He will stick to an enclosed pen if he had company.
Whatever you do do not let the dog and your daughter alone together.
You must keep an eye on them constantly.
They are very nice pets but they have been known to be dangerous.

this might sound mean but it does not hurt them. Go to wal-mart and buy an underground fence system its about 100 dollars its a collar and a wire you bury under the ground making a invisible fence and when the dog goes near the boundary line it give a slight shock enough to get there attention so they will learn if they go near it they will get shocked.

It may sound inhumane but buy him a shock collar. I have a rottie and it worked on him. Getting zapped with that thing 3 times was all he needed to learn not to leave the yard. He is so big now that even if I had to put it on him it would not phase him so you should get him conditioned while he is still small.

I agree with the others that said to get an electric fence or collar. Those work the best & he will learn to stay in the yard. Also I've seen in pet stores a metal fence you can put up. You can attach more than one to make it bigger so he has more room to run and play.
