I like to know where that expression...sick as a dog came from too..LOL. I think animals are amazing to begin with and yes, they most certainly do sense if one isn't feeling well, not just medically but emotionally as well. My two kitties have a habit of cuddling up with me at night as I get ready to go to bed...and of course I wind up sleeping like a pretzel, gee no wonder I wake up with backaches. But sometimes if I'm feeling out of kilter I do notice that they cuddle more than normal

Animals are gifted with many abilities that are almost totally lacking in Humans. A dog's nose is 1000 times more sensitive than his master's. His hearing is 67 HZ, compared to a Humans at 20 HZ. Cats and dogs can feel vibrations which emenate from living bodies. When you are sick your vibrations are lower and weaker and the animal is very aware of this change in your body. Also your body gives off different odors when you are ill. Its also not outside the realm of reason that dogs and cats, can see the aura which is the Atmosphere surrounding a living body. This aura is very bright and colorful in a healthy person, but will be much darker and not as colorful when the person is sick. All these abilities could alert your pet to the state of your health at any Given Time.

The only time my cat is nice to me is when I am feeling down or I am sick. He will come into my room and lay down on my pillow next to my head and purr in my ear!

I believe animals do know. When someone is sick in the house my dog likes to go lay really close to them. animals have a sixth sense i believe. When my mother was pregnant with one of my sisters so very long ago lol, our family dog followed her around, layed at her feet, layed at the door when she took a bath and right next to her bed the whole time. after she was born the dog layed close to the baby.

I have a cat and she is usually a little more friendly when I am sick. She sits with me and likes to be patted and when I am not sick I can't even get her to come near me.

I know that when I'm sick, my dog Gracie (Boston Terrier) is right there with me. I was in the hospital last winter for 4 months and she was totally lost while I was gone. My husband said that she just moped around and whined the whole time I was gone and she slept on my pillow day and night. They sneaked here in my room and she was estastic, jumping all over the bed and licking me non-stop. When I FINALLY came home from the hopsital she was right there with me and stuck to me like glue. If I went to the bathroom, she was with me....when I took a shower, she laid in the bathroom floor until I was out. We saved her from a shelter and we've had her about 5 years and she's been a "mamma's dog" ever since we got her.

Isn't it funny how they know... yes.. our dogs do it... infact one of our little guys (puppy) is sick.. and the other two dogs (one who hates teh puppy also) is really concerned.. makes you realize that they are just as much human as we are... they may not communicate the way we do.. but they have feeling and communicate...

Our 3 cats were the same. When I was pregnant with my oldest, they were all over me and would meow as if to ask if I was ok.
