There is something in dogs and cats eye that makes me wonder. Maybe I should make my dogs working for lonely people. People. Animals. Love Short PAL “PAL is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization that brings people and animals together, brightening the lives of the lonely, easing the pain of the sick and enriching the world of at-risk children. PAL pet therapy volunteers comprise 300+ caring adults and children and their PAL-certified animals, all of whom are committed to bringing people and animals together in meaningful, mutually life-affirming ways. Together, they make about 18,000 contacts per year. “ http://www.peopleanimalslove.org/about.php Would you volunteer your pets? I wouldn’t just because they are not train enough to behave well.

Would love to volunteer but I am not in the United States, LOL. A few years ago, I volunteered for two weeks to take care of old nuns, most in their nineties and very sick. One of the therapies were dogs. Once a week there would be dogs that would visit the sick house and it does give a lot of benefits. Good luck and more power to your endeavor! =)

My Lab Shady, RIP, passed the Canine Good Citizen test with flying colors and became a therapy dog soon after when I was approached at the test site about volenteering our time to visit with nursing home residents 7yrs ago. Shady was the one that convinced me to do it and it was very rewarding 'work' to see the ppls' faces light up whenever we walked into their rooms every week. We visited one nursing home a day at least once a week for a total of 6 local nursing homes. Something Shady loved doing till a week b4 I had put him down for the pain was just too much for my bud to bear anymore. If I had the right dog now, I would volenteer again in a heartbeat. Although, with more socialization, I'm betting my cat Tigger would make an excellent therapy pet.

you have very good heart to volunteer your animals... Looking at the Tiger eye, people would be happy to see him. I know what you mean by more socialization, most cats are not very social.

I believe it. I have seen some successful report from the newspaper. Especially this therapy works well for children. Children like animals, I think it's their nature.

I completely believe in pet therapy. My friends father was in a nursing home that had a cat and dog that lived there also. Boy that made such a difference! Many of the people who had to be there had to give up their beloved pets. Animals offer comfort and cheer, sometimes this is something a human can offer. I have a dog, Louie, who has the perfect temperment for this. He would sit all day if someone would want to pet him that long. I would love him to become a therapy dog. I just have the time to have him certified.

Some of my dogs have been therapy dogs, but, I've had to wait till they were older because the breed is kind of active. It has been proven that the animals are very beneficial to everyone's health. Your blood pressure goes down just petting an animal. I think it's an excellent program.

How nice for you to have therapy dogs... I agree, petting your pet is calming you down and lower your blood pressure...

YES!!! I totally believe in pet therapy. I did part of my masters thesis on pet therapy. I have seen pet therapy in several nursing homes and I have seen pet therapy used with abused children. Pets have a way of calming people and they also provide an outlet for afffection and companionship to those who are lonely. A lady who was in the same nursing home as my aunt was allowed to bring her cat. All of the residents took up with that cat and he was the king of the center!

I think this is an excellent idea. Putting people and pets together for therapy. It has been proven that those with pets are much happier than those without. Pets provide much happiness to so many people. However, I don't think my cat would be a good candidate for PAL because she isn't trained for it and she has a mind of her own and she is very active and crazy. She will be very loving and then she will bite you or scratch you and run away!

Aww--I just left a comment with your photo..love those eyes on your doggie..I think the whole concept of Pet Therapy is fantastic especially for places like retirement or senior citizens home, or maybe if it were allowed to bring them to hospitals especially terminal cases, or even something like St. Jude's children's hospital...As for "volunteering" my kitties...like your dogs, I don't think my cats would cooperate too well...LOL

My first priority in deciding if I like an idividual is how much they love their pets.....you all qualify....I must admit..I could not be without mine long enough for them to have a job. I have 6, 4 dogs, 2 cats. All were abused and live the life of royalty now. PEACE
