how short is too short?

the weather has been unseasonably warn around here the past couple of days. i was at walmart the other day and i saw these 2 young girls, 13 at the most, with the shortest shorts on i have ever seen. they were so short there cheeks were hanging out. this bothers me on soooo many different levels. first, strangers tend to immediately judge the girls, labeling them as "skanky" or whatever else. second, guys get a message that the girls are more mature than they probably really are. and third, it just looks bad. everyone likes a little attention from guys now and then, but to me, this is the wrong kind of attention. if when you're just standing up and your butt cheeks peek out, then your shorts are too short.
How short do you think is too short?

Just like we were taught in our English grammar class about sentences
they should short enough to make it interesting but long enough to cover the subject.

This is indeed very short, no doubt. I think, the line of decency should not be crossed no matter what. Here I am not moral policing but I think it the apparently decent guys even do not like it much.
Thanks.

Hi ChristenBabyy! Oh that is way too short in my own opinion! If their butt cheeks are peeking out, then I think that looks indecent for me. I may sound so conservative or whatever but I think when you wear this kind of short shorts, it makes you look cheap. I guess I am from a different era or I have a different culture but I guess it does not look proper at all. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day! :)

I just came back from the 7-11 to buy a slurpee and 5 lotto tickets. While waiting in line there was a grip of guys waiting. Then two teenage minor girls either from high school or middle school came in dress like they were about to hit the clubs. Shortest shorts - and older guys older than me were checking them out. For me, I don't even bother to begin with - honestly if I was a parent I wouldn't let my daughter wear shortest shorts because it looked like they were walking around like they weren't shorts but like pantie jeans. It was ridiculous - this is the one of the reasons why common sense comes into action. And knowing how guys this when girls do wear that attracts their eyes of indecent things. How did I know they were minor girls? Well for one they had school books from high school. With binders of their high school name.

my mother would have never let me out of the house if my butt cheeks were hanging out! Where are the parents! Where's their self respect???? Its sad. I think a little common sense goes a long way and teen age girls need somebody to keep them in check.

My daughter is 14, nearly 15 years, & thank goodness she hasn't gone this far with her clothes. She likes shorts, but they cover up her bottom. She also likes low cut shirts, but one can't see anything much.
I have noticed at swimming, that a few girls like this "fashion" of wearing their shorts over their bathers, with the waist way down over their hips, showing their bottom. It looks totally stupid.

Ya the short should be short enough to be interesting but long enough to cover the subject. If you are wearing something and if its not able to cover the part i.e.it is unable to complete its purpose then its of no use.

That is definitely too short and way too young. There are many ways to attract a guy and kind of thing sends the wrong message. One can't blame guys or people for thinking that such girls are way too easy too. It's also downright lacking in finesse. I hope some people would get those girls pull together and present themselves that is not offensive to the public.

I'm not much for dressing up to go to WalMart, but I do think that bare tummies and deep cleavages and cheeky shorts are out of place in public except at the beach or maybe a swimming pool. I don't think kids need to see that sort of thing, and I don't really want to either.

I know I am going to get a nasty response from this from someone but I blame parents most of the time. I have seen this kind of thing too. When I was that age I had to follow the rules of school all the time. They had to be to the tips of my fingers. Short is okay but that is ridiculous. At that age they dont need that kind of attention at all. That is how this country has ended up in the mess it is in with 13years olds becoming moms.

your question is really realistic but there are very less girls who care about wearing shorts.something that make personality and get attraction of the ppl girl try to do that mostly.no one can suggest to anyone it depends on everyone wish what to wear how to wear and where to wear. i m agree with that shorts should not be so short that whont cover the subject even.

All the shorts they make these days are too short! It is so frustrating. I would love to wear shorts but I do not want my butt hanging out. A few years ago the principal at my daughters school was concerned that all the girls had short shorts at a PTA meeting he and his wife told us they had gone shopping and all they could find was "Daisy Dukes" he was appalled and saddened that all the elementary girls only had short shorts as an option. I have my daughter wear skorts or boy shorts because I will not allow her to leave the house with her behind hanging out.

I would defintly get a very bad impression on these girls, even if deap inside they are the sweetest, most gental creatures ever born.
This is way too short, and i think there is a clear line between looking attractive, and looking like you are searching for "costumers", especialy if they are so young.

I think that is too short if your cheeks are peeking out. My daughter has some pretty short but she isn't allowed to wear them out of the house. Only to the swimming pool and in the house. I will not let her out of the house looking like that to go to the store. I think that has a lot to do with parental supervision. It's ok to say no to your kids. People forget this. It does look bad and it really does send the wrong message, especially with the world the way it is now. There are some really sick men out there! I always worry about my daughter when she is out and about and I thank God that my daughter is a tomboy and doesn't feel the need to dress provocatively. I tell her all of the time that she already gets enough attention from boys at school because she is pretty, but she doesn't have to wear provocative clothing, it sends the wrong message and boys will want you for the wrong reasons. I have always told her that and I will continue to tell her that. Thanks for posting that!

It's sad that young people nowadays behave in such a manner. They don't seem to care about their actions and that all they are after is the attention that they get for such actions. I have seen young girls expose too much skin and with all those make-up all over their faces and I agree with what you said, they look more mature than they actually are. They try so hard to be just like the people they see on TV or in teen magazines.
Well, they could wear such if they are in the beach or in a fashion show or perhaps in the comfort of their homes but to sport such shorts as you have described while in places like department stores, convenience stores or while strolling down the city streets? Hhhmm...

Maybe its because of how I was raised or that I'm a mom to a teenage daughter but I think most style are way to short now-and to make matters worse-girls are stuffing themselves into sizes that are too small. My daughter has a friend whom I adore but I cringe during the warmer months and we're all out together-she has a favorite pair of shorts that barely cover her butt and have a tear in the butt so when she walks her cheek is visible. I've tried talking to the girl, her mother, and her father about people perhaps getting the wrong idea to no avail. I'm not saying girls have to wear shorts to their knees but at least make sure your clothes cover the important parts when standing, sitting, reaching, laying, walking, running...any activity you would do in them.
Girls don't need to look sexy at that age. Its inappropriate and dangerous.

I agree with you that if your butt cheeks are sticking out then it is defianetly too short!
I think the perfect size for summer short pants for girls are about 10cm under your hip.. well Im not sure how to measure it or write it but defianetly not that short!
