What to do about spam?

We report spam to our email provider. But it doesn't seem there is anything that gets done about spam, I was thinking. Then I had this idea. I would start spamming them back. But if you notice you can't send anything to the email that sends you the spam, but there is another email listed usually down a ways. So I have started sending links to my website to all of the people who spam my email address. I wonder what would happen if everyone started doing this to these people. Do you think they would stop spamming us?

i dont think that would help a lot. most of the spammers are actually automated scripts. its just best to use a spam filter, and report returning spammers.

LOL - well I figure it's worth a try for a couple of days at least. They're probably coming from different countries too, so my website probably wouldn't be of interest to them. Thanks for your response and have a great day!

There is a site called spamcop.net which allows people toreport spam e-mails. You just need to paste the e-mail header (the text which shows where the e-mail originated) and the message, then spamcop gives you the option of sending an abuse report to the ISP.

Wow, I was not even aware of this site. I have recently been getting stuff from Purdue.edu which I think is a college in Indiana. I think I will definitely give this a try. Thanks for your help and response. Have a great day!

It doesn't stop it! Sometimes (but not always) it makes it worse. I only know because I did the exact same thing! It still makes me feel better which is all that matters...and who knows? Maybe one day I will get something good out of someone seeing my links when otherwise they would not have!

That's good to hear. I am glad I am not the only one who tried doing this. It seems when I use the report spam button I just get more and more spam. Maybe it is my imagination. LOL Thanks for your response and have a great day posting.

I'm not sure how to avoid them, but surely, I don't have nor receive any of it on my inbox mails. Maybe you can try creating another e-mail of your's, the one's that you'd reserve to use for more important mails to receive. I think I don't receive any, because I don't belong nor go to any site and register my e-mail in it.

If I did that I would probably get even more spam. I use aol and they are pretty good at catching most spam and put it in a spam folder for me.
