Can someone give me some information on playing the bass drum and bass guitar together. I have played bass guitar for many years, but, never with a drummer and now I am getting more into recording, I am trying to make sure the finer details are correct. Therefore, when I use my dreaded drum/loop software program I have the opportunuity to place the bass drum beats in any location. So, exactly, where and when do you match them up with the bass guitar.
I don't seem to have too much issue with the main notes(for example the 4 quarter notes in a 4/4 time), but, if the bass guitar adds in a couple of say 1/8 beats in that time, should the bass drum follow?
thanks in advance.

i've also played the bass for many years. you don,t really mention what kind of music you're playing, i tend to like to get busy on the fretboard (see:geddy lee, steve harris, geezer butler) but regardless i think the bass drum should remain pretty much constant, it's the rest of the drums that should play off the bass and visa versa.
my best advice... get a drummer.

The kind of music I play is not easy to catagorize, as I believe in just playing what "feels" right at the time. I record only my own compositions, which tend to be in the rock/pop genre, but, I am open to whatever I feel like at the time.
I am not a busy player, mainly as between me not being that great on the bass and a less than perfect bass guitar, I have to play what sounds good.
I wish I could get a drummer, but, my current situation would make it nearly impossible to find the time to practice with one. Sadly, the days of me being in a band were some 20 years ago and I sure do miss them.
