what are your views on corporal punishment in schools

In some countries it has been banned,but here in the CARIBBEAN it is permitted.It has become a concern of mine because,the old folks say "SPARE THE ROD AND SPOIL THE CHILD".Children of this generation are more advance and have more understanding.Are we doing the right thing.I have a son ,i may spank him from time to time but i use other froms of punishment,e.g (take away his toys).We can't do that at schools.Also we have to look at physical and mental aspect of this issue.

They took this out of the schools here when I was about 10 and I think it was a mistake. I was afraid of getting in trouble and the punishment when I was a kid. Then they stopped it and it was wrong to spank your kids. Well that told me I was in charge and started my path down a long lonely road of doing things I shouldn't because why not no one could punish me. I think done in reason there is nothing wrong with discipline.
