Let you discuss what will happen in in November and beyond.
Let us first talk about the most probable McCain vs. Hillary
In this matchup McCain will win and let me tell you why. Hillary's disapproval numbers are to high for her to get elected. Enough Independents we go for McCain to off set any Conservative that do blot, and most will not because the fear of Hillary. Democrats will gain sets in both the Senate and the House. President John McCain will regard the Conservative base as a worthless group in the Republican party, due to the fact that his victory was because of Moderates. By 2010 Conservative will start leaving the party, and form their own party. Democrats will hold on to their majority in both houses in Congress. By 2012 President John McCain will have to fight a two front war, one front will be the Democrat party, which will be more two the left due to the fact that the new Moderate Republican party will have pushed them there. The other front we be the new U.S.A Conservative party. I cannot see past that.
Now let us look at the possibility of a McCain vs. Obama. In this matchup Obama wins easily wins. Most of the Independent will vote for Obama. To make matters worse for the Republican party, the Conservative bolt in mass because there is not enough fear to keep them. The Conservative will either choose between the American Libertian party, The Constitution Party, or an Independent Conservative candidate. Democrats will gain seats in both the House and the Senate. For two year the Democrats under Obama will be able to do what ever they what, but this will backfire in 2010. Since there will be more Democrat up for re-election that Republican in the Senate, it will turn into 94 all over again. The Conservatives will return to the Republican party and overthrow both the Moderate wing of the party, but also the Democrats. This will setup something interesting in 2012. The Democrats will be a far left party, more than they are now. The Republican party will be strictly a conservative party. This leave the Moderates, they felt impowered by McCain, and will form their own party called the U.S.A Center party. That is as far as I can see.
The last possibility a can see is NY City mayor Micheal Bloomberg throws his hat in to the ring. It becomes a four way race McCain/Hillary or Obama/Bloomberg/ and who ever the Conservatives choose. Bloomberg will spelt the Liberal vote, McCain will get the Moderate vote, but because the Conservative which will be the biggest block that has not been brocken up, will win. Sorry but I cannot see much farther than that. What do you think.

The only thing I know for sure is that if Hillary is the one to run, then I am voting for McCain. I am not sure why I distrust Hillary, but I do.
I am not sure if this country can support a third party (a real party, not a token force of lunatics). I think that we need a third party, especially considering that you can barely tell the difference between the two parties that we currently have.
And yes, I am ignoring parties like the Green, and all the other parties that are there just for spite.

There will be no party split up as politics is the art of accommodation and McCain is a conservative after all.
He probably has advantage over Hillary and Obama. His weak point is the economy. Again by election time, the economy should be recovering already, thou the bitter feeling will be there during the voting. He is planning to run on National Security which is good for him, the Iraq war will be under control and terrorist are being hunt down in Afghanistan. I am personally supporting Obama so let's hope he choses wisely his vice and energizes the country.
