I NEED HELP. Ok..here is the situation. I told my two daughters that if they got straight A's all year in school ( they are in eighth and sixth grade), that I would take them anywhere they wanted to go for one week this summer. figured that they would loose interest like they have every other year since second grade. So far they have received two report cards, and all A's. One even has perfect attendance. For my two girls, that is saying something. Looks like they may just do it.
So the other day I asked them where they wanted to go if the y complete their end of the deal. They told me that they had already discussed it and decided on Rome. I told them there was no way that I was taking them to Rome. But a promise is a promise, and me being a man of my word, I said ok. If they follow through and complete the school year perfect.
Anyone that has any hints, tips, or advise on Rome, please let me know. I need to find out where to stay and what to see for as little as possible. I do not want to go cheap by all means, but I can't do first class either. I can not let them down if they don't let me down.

You learned a lesson as well, NEVER give your kids that open a deal. It's great that it inspired them but GEZ...
Since they've caught you in it though it's good our following through. Wish I could give you suggestions but I've never been out of the states myself.

I have learned a lesson. I will not be making tis kind of deal with my younger two..LOL. Seriously though, if this is what it takes for me to motivate them to succede, I am okay with it. They are very open to whatever I need to do to make it happen. They have even told me that they want to go in 2009 instead of 2008 so it will be easier on my wallet. They want to save their money as well so they can do or buy what ever they want while we are there.

First of all I would like to say that it is fantastic that your daughters got all grade A in their school this year. This shows that they are intelligent and hard working. It was so very nice of you to offer to take them anywhere for one week. Given that they both wish to go to Rome in Italy they are considerate for staying that you could go in 2009 instead of 2008 so you are able to save up.
I have a 12 year old son and his top interest is history. He wants to go to Rome, Carthage in Tunisia and Giza in Egypt. He is fascinated by the history of the Romans and the Egyptians. When I take him to Rome I will hopefully get a cheap flight and book our accommodation on the Internet. I will compare the prices of a twin room at a pension in Rome. You could do the same thing but compare the price of a triple room. I suggest taking a good guide book and map of Rome. If you see a cheap flight to somewhere else near Italy then I suggest going by train on to Rome. I often do this when traveling as it saves money and can add interest to my trip. I wish you happy thoughts of a great time in Rome in 2009 giving your daughters lots to enjoy.

Seeing London, Paris and Rome will be great for you and your daughters. We come from South West England. We will hopefully get a cheap flight to Rome and four nights in a reasonably priced pension. We have to choose a time in the school holidays so it will either be October 2008 or Easter 2009. Happy traveling.

Thank you for the info. We have been looking at travel books, and I think they have decided on an eleven day trip to Rome, Paris, and London. It will cost about 2500.00 US per person including flight. Where are you traveling from? This is a package deal that includes guided tours in the AM and the ability to go your own way in the PM. We all like this idea because of that. We didn't want to be completely on our own, but didn't want to be nailed down to a group the whole time.
Happy traveling to you and your son also. When are you going?

Thank you, I look forward to any suggestions. I do have an update though... My daughters have decided that they want to wait till teh spring of 2009. They said that this way, we can do it right. They said that they want to be able to save their money also, so they can buy or do whatever they weant while we are there. I must sat, I am very impressed with their maturity in this whole thing.
