Do you clean the earwax for your child?

Normally, earwax is produced in small amounts that protect the ear canal and disperse naturally. But if too much wax is produced, it can build up, become hard and dry, and block the ear canal. If you find your child has earwax, do you clean it, or just let it be?

My kids get their ears cleaned after baths (usually a couple times a week). It's a habit my dad started. Well, I suppose, it was his parents that started it. He always did it as a kid and when I was a kid we always cleaned our ears out after bathing so I do the same with my kids. As an adult I still do it. I don't feel like I'm finished with my shower if I don't clean my ears out. In the summer I usually don't have to do it after each bath because they swim so much it naturally cleans their ears out. It works better to clean them after they've been playing in the tub/shower for awhile because it softens up the wax and loosens it up. It doesn't take much to clean it out and most of it will come to the surface on it's own.

Yes, I also clean his ears after baths. But only the outside part, I can not clean the inside. Because I am just afraid of I will hurt his ears.

My daughter who is 8 always has hard dried up earwax in her ears. I don't ever try to get it out myself because it is so far into the ear canal. We always just end up scheduling her a doctors appointment so they can get it without hurting her or the ear drum.

my son produces an excessive amount of ear wax, always has... I used to clean his ear canal by irrigating them with a mixture of warm water and hydrogen peroxide - using a bulb syringe or a hydrating syringe - for a while I was using ear candles and candling the wax out of his ear.

yes i do. i don't go digging down in there to get it out, but if you can see it just by looking at their ear i will get what is seen out. my oldest daughter, if she gets too much wax in there she ends up with bad ear aches that it keeps her home from school cause all the noise of the kids and the bell make it hurt worse. my son is next to impossible to try and get the wax out of his. he does not like having his ears touched at all. so i have to do his when hes asleep. and the baby i'm afraid to do her ears with a qtip. so i just use my finger nail then that way if she moves like all babies tend to do she will just get a little poke from my finger on her ear instead of something poking down inside her ear.

Thank you for sharing. But I scare to touch my son's ears. I am afraid I may hurt his ear. And some one told me if clean the ears can cause wax to become impacted and contribute to blockages. My doctor also told me never use cotton buds or push anything into the ear to clean wax. I do not know how can I do now?

I do clean up the earwax of my child. I usually do it once or twice a week. I have read that the earwax do protect the ears from walking freely and irritating the inner ear and it also poisons the insect. Thus its not advisable to clean the inner ear every day. So that is my standard schedule, its once or twice a week as I see fit.

I do not do that. I think it is very dangerous. I am afraid I will hurt my kid. And I usually let my wife do those things.

Hi, cydzzj. Yes, I clean my kids ears. When my son goes to school, I will take a moist wipe and I will clean his ears out. He does not like it, but I do it anyway. Wax in his ears only builds up like every two days or so. My daughters ears don't get as much of wax as his does.
