Moving To Save Money

So, my husband and I decided we needed to try and downsize a bit. Try to save more money, so we're moving into a smaller place. It's about 500 or 00 sqare feet. It's not big by any means, but it's a roof over our heads with utilities and heat. And it's just me, him and the baby, so it shouldn't be too terrible. It's actually on the same property as my mom's house. My grandpa owns the property, my mom rents the bigger house from him, and I'll be renting the smaller one from him as soon as we move.
Right now, rent is $850 plus our utilities which averages about $1200-$1400 including our rent. Once we move, rent will be $400 and we have to pay out own gas, phone, and internet. Electric is included with the rent. We're thinking this will save us quite a bit of money. We're also going to start making dinner at home and save money that way too...
I'm having a really hard time getting motivated to move and pack boxes. It's just so overwhelming, I really don't know where to start. You know? It's hard!

I definatly understand where you are comming from! I am supposed to move tomorrow to a new city and I still do not have all my blongings packed! I am going to be paying 300$ a month for a room in a house near the mall. I am renting my friends room while he is away doing a work term. I have no idea what I am going to do when he comes home and moves back into his house. I would like to get a little place of my own so I can be independent but I have an idea that I will just end up moving back in with my mother and father which I really do not want to do at all!
Good luck with your move! I am sure you will find the motivation to move sooner or later

I hate packing too, it's no fun. I've had to do it twice o move into dorms. Id say start with whatever you aren't going to use in the next couple of days, and save the clothing for last so you won't have to dig back through it when you realize you need to wear something. Sounds like a good move for you though, since you'll be saving so much money. If you have a good freezer you can make dinners way ahead and save a ton of time and money that way. If you like stew, you can make huge pots of it and put individual or double servings into freezer bags, that's how my mother does it and it's the most convenient thing ever.

Hi there Samanthavv! I don't like moving too but I think it's a really smart decision in your case. I myself wouldn't want to live in a big house because just like you, it's just me, my husband and our son. It would be really hard for me to maintain cleanliness and order in a big house and I'm usually lazy when it comes to cleaning. I only get inspired with cleaning once a month at least, but I am talking about general cleaning there. I hope, you find the urge to pack soon, good luck with your moving!

I hate moving. I moved 14 times in 11 years. Now I will be moving again this summer but it should be the last time I move before I am old and gray so that is what is motivating me to start organizing now and getting rid of crap I don't need.

i enjoy packing. my wife often tells me that im OC (obsessive compulsive) organized freak she says. well -- good luck to your new endeavor. sure is cheaper in that new place you're going to move into. more time for you and your husband to go on leisure trips.
