I would maybe set up another litter box somewheres and show her where it is and if you catch the other cat going by her box shoe him away. Cats are territorial. is the female cat knew? My mother in law had this problem with one of their older cat kept peeing on the floor in thier daughters room cuz thats where the cat always sleeps and then seen that their 2 younger cats were tormenting her and spraying on the mat in front of the litter box. Now the cats either stay outside or only get to stay in the laundry room.

no we have had this cat now going on two years.
I will put the box in a room and leave her there that might be a good solution.

Have you changed the type of cat litter you use lately or has the company changed their formula? My oldest cat is picky about her litter and won't use certain types (like feline pine). Try switching her cat litter. Also, if you notice that she is using the bathroom in the same general places, try setting up litter boxes around those places. She just may be unhappy where her litter box is located.

unfortunately we change it all the time because I love on food bank products so it is whatever they get that I use.

Thats what I was thinking when I saw this dicussion. Mine stopped useing the litter box when I changed her litter. Cats can be picky about what they use for that.

I have had that problem before. I do not always have a solution. Prevention magazine had some good pointers at one time. One was to make sure that the litter was not overly scented. I would have my kitty checked for worms, as well, and maybe offer her a litter box of her own some place safe. Of course if she has started going one particular place, she will return there because of the scent, which you may think you have gotten rid of, but she can still smell. I will watch this discussion in hopes that I can get good info as well.

thanks for the advise, I will also wash the floor with vinegar, cats don't like that and she should stay away from that area as well.

I have a male who has been doing this for some time and I always have to hunt around the house for where he went because we have wood floors that can easily get ruined.
When I researched it, they said it can either be stress, multiple cat syndrome, or a Urinary Tract Infection.
We tried a product that was recommended called Feliway. It either comes in a spray or a plug in diffuser. We've used the diffuser. It's kind of pricey, but worth it if you've already had a vet visit and it's not a medical reason and you love your cat. lol
Be sure to check out various sites for the best deal. I've purchased from Amazon, Ebay, and a discount vet supply (cannot recall)....it's usually best to buy in Qty.
Good luck.

Somertimes if a cat goes in the litterbox, and it hurt somewhere on there body, they will refuse to use the box after that. I have also heard that cats that have been recently declawed sometimes stop using the litterbox as well. Or, some cats are just very finicky and if there is one drop of dirty in it, they will just go on the floor. Make sure you kitty is not hurt...hope everything turns out alright. Try calling the vet and asking them wehat they think as well.

Try getting another liter box so they each have one. And, really keep it extra clean..I found that helped when I had my second cat, especially if one cat is intimidating the other..Don't put them in the same room (boxes)..They each will adopt one for their own but don't worry if one uses the others'..And, for the urine smell in your house, you can buy stuff at the farm stores or pet stores or the vets' office that will help make that smell go away as they seem to continue going back to that same place once they have done it as it seems to make them feel safe and away from the intimidation..And give equal attention to both cats to show you love them both the same..But, discourage the intimidation by the one cat by correcting it when you see it happening..It's safe when they are going to sleep as each knows the other is going to do just that and won't "carry on" as they can during the time they are up. Hope this helps... Have a good day and God Bless

as I said in the earlier comments there are three litters boxes and they go in all of them,
but now I have isolated one for the zara and she went in it last night so hopefully the problem is solved

It could be a health problem. My siamese is a diabetic and she used to pee before she could get to the liter box. We took her to the vet and she needed insulin shots. After taking them for a few days, she made it to the box soon enough.

We tried to have a cat once and the cat would go to the litter box to do its business but the problem was, its rearend hung over the edge and it dirtied on the floor. I couldn't handle that every long so my mom took it and made it an outside cat. We don't have the property here for an outdoor animal is why also.

Is her urine bloody? If so, then she has a urinary tract infection and I would get her to the vet ASAP cause she will eventually die from it. Even if she doesn't, I would still take her to the vet to rule out any medical problems.

Do you have just the one box for the two of them? I found it solved a lot of problems when I got two litter trays, one for each of mine.

Winterose,
I would take the cat to see a vet doctor immediately. One of my cats started doing the same and I just assumed it was a behavioral problem because we had just added another dog to the family but as it turns out she suffers from chronic kidney failure and has basically been 'dying' slowly without me knowing. I still feel alot of guilt about this happening so to quickly rule out medical problems such as chronic renal failure, diabetes, or urinary tract infection (which are known to cause cats to urinate out of place) make an appointment with your vet. If there is a problem at least you will know sooner about it, and if not, then all the other suggestions made here are very good. I would put nature's miracle in the spot where she urinates, it's a bit pricer but it sure cleans up all smells (vinegar won't get rid of the urine hiding in the carpets but the other one will)
