TOKOYO:countless paper planes have been launched across classrooms by mischevous pupils. now scientists are preparing to unleash, from about 250 miles above the earth, a hi-tech plane made from the same material. aeronautical engineers from Tokyo university believe planes made from heat resistant paper treated with silicon will survive the fiery descent back to the earth after they are released by an astronaut on the international space station this year.
in tests, during a 30-seconds phase inside a hypersonic wind tunnel, the planes, designed by the japan origami Airplane association ,survived temperature of 250degree c and wind speeds of match 7-seven times the speed of sound.
"paper planes are extremely light so they slow down when the air is thin and can gradually descend,"said shinji suziki, the professor who leads the team

i think thats completely awesome if they are successful at that but im wondering.. and no im not a tree hugging hippie, just a very curious cat :) how many trees would it take to make a space shuttle? lol :D and how safe would you feel in a paper airplane falling towards the earth from heights unreached by most humans lol but hey if anyone can pull it off its the japanese! they never cease to amaze me with what they come up with on that lil island so over packed with people! surprised anyone has a moment to think let alone finish a thought lol
