A few weeks ago I was lamenting that my cookies always turn out terrible looking...well yesterday I made chocolate chip cookies that look great & tsate great!!
I thought I would have enough flour to make the cookies but didn't (recipe called for 2 cups but then it still seemed too runny)...so I added pancake mix (all that I had in the cupboard!) and chocolate flavored whey protein powder.
I didn't measure anything, just went by what "looked right"...used the same awful baking pan i've had for years...
maybe i'm just someone who's better off not following recipes or directions, lol!

My cookies never look like cookies, and although they taste nice they never actually taste like cookies!! Not sure why, maybe I should just try not following the recipe either then I might have more luck!! Well done on your cookies that look and taste like they should, just make sure you remember how you did it for next time!!

That is a really good idea. Of course the pancake mix had some baking soda and other helpful stuff, but when I run into this, I toss a handful of oatmeal in the spice mill and grind it to flour and use that. I also add a bit of baking soda. Sometimes experiments turn into wonderful new recipes. (...and sometimes they don't, lol...)

That is the way my grandma always cooked she didn't meauser anything she just put what she thought was right and her cooking was always really good. I think things turn out better when you don't have a receipe to follow. How many cookies do you have left since they were so good?

Good for you! I'm extremely jealous...I can't bake to save my life. Maybe I should start throwing in whatever I can find in the cupboard too, cause it sounds like you had great success doing that!

Great job! Congrats and good for you. Yep, I am someone who rarely uses a recipe as well. Alot of trial and error when I first started out years ago, but I learned to cook mostly from my Finnish grandmother who was married to an Italian. She was a fantastic cook and never used a recipe either!Mmmm now you have made me hungry. After I reach my goal of 500 posts today, I might have to bake some cookies to celebrate. Thanks for giving me such a great idea!

I remember that discussion. Congratulations on your cookies. I once made mine with about 1/4 less flour than the recipe called for and my son told me they were the best cookies I had ever made. And this boy LOVES my cookies. It is funny how things turn out sometimes.
