Last night, the roomie & I decided to go get something to eat - even tho we had just nearly bought out the food store, but we were too tired to fix anything.
We were thinking of going to Mac Grill, but decided at the last minute to go cheaper and go to Golden Corral.
We went in & the first table was empty, so we sat down there. We had just gotten back to the table when a young man came to the table next to us. Then the rest of his party joined him.
As one lady walked by, I noted her distictive gait and called out a name from a friend from high school.
Yes, it was, indeed her. She got her plate and then sat down & we visited. Her brother who had first claimed the table was really nice, the other one barely spoke, but the 3 of us did plenty of talking for the other 3.
She was there with her mother as well as her 2 brother. She's teaching spanish in school and is still 4 years from retirement. We exchanged phone numbers. She's still intouch with the one friend I remember, but only barely & we said a few words about another friend. We just spent most of time catching up.

That's so nice that you ran into her. Most of us never get that opportunity, so enjoy it!

We didn't have a lot in common, but we were friendly enough, I guess. I think we might actually have more in common now, since neither of us ever married....

Does that make you feel good? I think that would make feel kind of accomplished. I like keeping in touch with people, or getting to know someone after years of being away. There are some friends I haven't seen in years, and I would love to run into them someday. That is really cool that you got to see her again.

I'm glad you met up with an old friend from high school. I never see any people I went to school with because we have moved 45 miles from where I grew up. I really didn't have any friends in school anyway, just acquaintances. It would be nice to see what people I went to school with look like and what profession they ended up with though.

Same ehere. I used to havr to drive 50 miles to work every day when we first moved here because I had a job back home before moving out to the boonies LOL. I hate to drive ene 15 miles to go to the grocery store. Everything is so far from us now and I just hate it especially since gas prices went up.

I guess that's the difference between where you live. 45 miles here is only about an hour away from any place and until recently, an hour wasn't an unexceptable drive.
I know people that commute, or used to commute from San Antonio to Austin to work. Not me, I consider 10 miles to far, but I'm LAZY!

It's really cool whenever you bump into an old friend that you have not met or seen for ages, and in such chance encounters. The follow up and long chats are always great opportunities to catch up with each other and brings back fond memories or terrible ones, if you happen to be unfortunate enough to think of those! I had an incredible encounter once when I bumped into an old friend from my secondary school days in, of all places, a pub in London! It was just out of this world and we spent the rest of the night finding out what had happened in each other's lives and the even cooler thing was that I used to have a crush on her and she had gotten even more beautiful by then. It was a night to remember. :)

That's so cool. Because I live in the same city I grew up in, and even go to some of the stores I used to shop at as a child (tho I was in a local HEB & told the gal checking me out, that this was where the White's Auto used to be, because they remodeled the shopping center to expand the HEB about 20 yrs ago.) So, yeah, I've been here long enough to know a few people here, probably the wonder is that I don't run into more people that I know.

We did see each other about 15 yrs ago or so at a reunion. She's stayed in touch with one of the other girls in our little group. I'm lousy at keeping up with people so I'm not surprised that I lost touch, the only reason I'm still in touch with one friend is because she makes the effort.

I called a friend I use to work with this week. It was fun to reminance on the phone of the good time we had. We talked about patients that use to come in and the other nurses we worked with. She is in contact with some that I am not and I am in contact that she is not.
It was fun and I will be inviting her over for dinner soon. We where so close at one time.
I hope you do not let life get in the way of your friendship.
