i can read this book again and again. it is the best mystery i have ever read! not only suspense, but the ultimate issue about life: love and confidence. i wonder how other people think about this book and like to have some recommandations for any other similar type of books. thanks!

I love Rebecca. I think it's an amazing book. I really like the idea of the absent character, and as a creative writing student would love to be able to write half as well as Du Maurier does.
If you haven't then you should read Jane Eyre and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

thank you so much for reply. i understand that du maurier is not that popular in this country so i am very happy to receive such a quick response. i am reading her another book "my cousin rachel" and it dosen't seem so interesting at beginning. but i will keep reading to find out what's going on.
most readers of "rebecca" think the book is all about this mysterious character, but i think this book is about "I", the anonymous narrator of story. it is about how she gained the confidence from being a "timid company" to a mature brave woman. "rebecca" is just a metaphor of vanity that people pursue.
thank you also for recommanding charlotte perkins gilman. i will find her books. i have read "jane eyre" long time ago and enjoyed it very much.
